Wayward Cottage is a self contained holiday cottage on our small holding, overlooking the Manifold Valley in the southern tip of the of the Peak District National Park. In a tranquil, rural setting, this is a great place to recharge your batteries. Relax watching our miniature sheep, chickens and horses, visit Dovedale or explore the many walks in the area. Take a drive into Leek, Ashbourne, Bakewell or Buxton. Slip over to Chatsworth House or Alton Towers...something for everyone!

The space

The cottage at Lowes Farm is in peaceful, rural surroundings with great views in all directions. It's the perfect place for relaxing and a great base for exploring the Peak District and all its attractions. There's something for everyone here from the splendours of Chatsworth House to the thrills of Alton Towers.

Guest access

The cottage has it's own front and back patios and we're happy for guests to wander around our fields when they are not in use (please check with us at the time).
Although we're happy for you to bring your well behaved pet (1 moderate sized dog or 2 small ones) we live in a rural area and there is livestock at Lowes Farm and on the neighbouring farms. We therefore do ask that guests keep their dogs on a lead when walking at and around Lowes Farm

Interaction with guests

We know that many of our guests stay with us for the peace and relaxation and we want you to have a great stay with us. Although you'll see us round and about, looking after the horses and miniature sheep, we'll do our best to safeguard your privacy. Of course, we're always happy to chat and talk about the animals if that's what you would like, and we're on hand to sort out any issues, answer your questions or tell you about the local area and attractions.

Other things to note

Although we're very dog friendly we are in a rural area with lots of livestock, so we do ask that if you bring your dog you keep your pet on a lead around the farm and in the fields.
Also... for something a little different, take a look at the listings for our 2 shepherds huts - Shirley Shepherds Hut at Lowes Farm and Doris Shepherds Hut at Lowes Farm.

My Mum and I spent thee days at Wayward Cottage, with our dog, Archie, and it was a shame we couldn't stay longer. Our time at the cottage on Nichola's and Bern's beautiful farm was above and beyond an airbnb property - it felt like we were on the most idyllic retreat. The cottage is cosy with everything you need and has the most glorious views of open rolling countryside. I will so cherish the afternoons sat with the miniature sheep in the most peaceful surroundings. Nichola and Bern were incredibly attentive in making sure that we had everything we needed and were a pleasure to meet as are such lovely, kind people. Hopefully we will be able to visit again in the not so distant future.

Hope to see you both again and once again, thank you so much for staying with us. Best wishes, Nic and Bern (PS don't worry about the plate at all!)

Cosy cottage in a rural location. Great if you want a peaceful getaway but still easy access to local towns/attractions. The cottage itself is modern, clean and well equipped with everything you could need and more. The weather wasn't great for us but the books, games and dvds were more than enough to keep us entertained whilst waiting for the rain to pass.

A cosy little cottage off the beaten track which couldn't have been better. We particularly loved the scenery and talking to Bern about the lovely sheep! Well equipped kitchen with everything we needed to save a bit of money, including eggs from the chickens, what a treat! We hope to come back sometime, despite the bad weather it was a wonderful trip!

Perfectly set out of the way of any main roads/ disruption and noise. Beautiful 360 degree views, the house was perfect and such amazing hosts. We will definitely be back if we're around that area again!

Wayward cottage is in a stunning setting on Bern and Nichola's farm. We were very lucky with the weather so took advantage of the patio area for alfresco brekkie and dinners! The cottage was cute, with everything you could need, and Bern and Nichola were very friendly and helpful. Great location for exploring the Peaks - there were walks and cycles on our doorsteps as well as a little further afield too.
