Ahhh Alyce, we really enjoyed having you with us, although it rained most of the time making you understandably disappointed. You are the first of our 60+ sets of guests (totaling 100s, many single women, families, dance groups, campers--from 4 years old to 81), over the past 9 months since we opened who have given us such a negative rating. Thus, we were quite surprised, as you never expressed any concerns to us during your visit—we would have immediately addressed any that were in our control. We're so sorry you reported the rooms’ surfaces weren't clean. Those rooms, which are nearest the front street, are subject to fine dust wafting up through the air from the street, and we must not have wiped the surfaces again right before you arrived. We’ll be more attentive to that. Thank you. We have been proud to have earned 5-star AirBnB Superhosts for our first 3 quarters of operation.
Since your remark about the taxis, I have added details to the posting about the short taxi rides ($.80US each) that one can take, to and from our home, as an option for getting first – to downtown (about 5-7 min.) - and second, to the whole of the Hip Strip of beaches, shops, dancing, etc. (5-7 minutes). We find that many of our guests even like to walk to and from downtown and the Hip Strip - taking in the sites, stores and people along the way.
Our location is a very safe, middle-class neighborhood with several quiet, adult-care homes, and a supermarket, and small markets for snacks, beer/wine, ice cream, also takeout food cook shops, and taxi service, etc. within a block (that even our 10-year-old nieces walk back and forth at night with no concern), up on the highest point of Montego Bay with a great view and breeze. Since this is described in our posting, we’re puzzled that you gave it a negative rating as you expected something different--what? We were again surprised, with our very low lodging prices for a very spacious, modern and comfortable home, when it seemed you implied our convenient, extra services, which many places don’t have for guests, i.e. meal preparation upon request, transport, washing machine usage, should not have an extra charge.
Many of your concerns are beyond our control, i.e. no sidewalks some places, disappointing beach, traffic and dog sounds, navigation, your high expectations of a young, developing country. We're always glad to communicate with prospective guests as much as they want, before they book, to communicate a feel for the place. Given a chance, we strive to discern expectations, so we can give a sense of the reality of everyday Jamaica, so people don’t have to rate us low because of different expectations, perhaps wanting the offerings of a developed country or a gated resort. Thank you for your acknowledgment of the kind people, our highly discounted airport transport (1/2 price of airport taxis), our lovely verandas, friendliness, and attentiveness.
