The space

5 minutes to Asheville, 10-12 minutes to Downtown, yet feels much more secluded. The Guest House offers lovely, creative open space with 12' high ceilings full of Southern light dancing through the rooms. Clean new Construction with additional private deck for relaxing as well as outdoor dining, grilling, deck chairs, and a relaxing outdoor shower. WiFi and Netflix over a 43" Samsung. Clean Fresh Linens on a Queen Size Latex Mattress. Original Art Work throughout.

The Great Room consists of a custom made sofa, two lounge arm chairs, and a lovely Ball & Claw antique dining table with leather chairs. All are from my personal home collection so please help me take good care of them. The bath is a small yet comfortable contemporary bath with shower. Since there is only one bedroom, children cannot be accommodated, so sorry! And since the floors are a very unusual decoupage, pets are also not allowed.

All of the property is available for my guests' enjoyment. While planning your stay, make sure to enjoy the private art gallery and working art studio in my home across the driveway. I will be delighted to share some time around my work or a nice chat about your visit.

I respect your privacy, yet will always make myself available for any assistance you might require.

Please keep radios low since sounds easily bounce through these mountains and respecting our neighbors' need for quiet is always a priority. Thank you.

My property is tucked up above a small subdivision so entrance is over easements. Please always respect my neighbor's property, call me with any question instead of contacting neighbors. Easy to find by following my clear directions. Again if you are a Night Owl vs a "Morning" Dove, this space may not be the right fit for your well earned vacation.

The driveway is newly paved so its easy to reach the cabin at the top of property.
Easy entrance to all major highways. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 5 minutes away. VA Hospital is less than 4 minutes down the road. Perfectly located for all that the Asheville area has to offer.

(With all these glowing remarks let me say for a second time, "If you are truly a Night Owl vs a "Morning" Dove, this peaceful guest house and peaceful location may not be for you, and then I will certainly miss having you as my guest". )

Guest access

This property is not flat for walking, but there are several benches tucked away among the trees where you can sit in quiet meditation.

Interaction with guests

Always respectful of my guests' privacy. Since I work from my professional art studio just next door, I am usually available for any assistance my guests might need.

Other things to note

GPS does not get you directly to the property because of several easements. You will need to contact me prior to arrival for detailed information as to how to drive through the easements. ALL GUESTS MUST ARRIVE BEFORE DARK FOR THE FIRST DAY'S CHECK IN SCHEDULE. Please note the 7PM last check-in time must be moved back when the time changes each fall. Check with host for details. Thank you.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THESE HOUSE RULES AND NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW BEFORE BOOKING YOUR RESERVATION...THANK YOU!

ON THE FIRST CHECK-IN DAY ALL GUESTS MUST ARRIVE BETWEEN 1PM AND 7PM. If other arrangements must be made, they need to be made prior to making your reservation and my confirmation of it. Thank you for respecting these hours.

No heavy drinking or drugs. NO Smoking allowed on this property. ($100 extra fine if evidence of smoking is found). Since sound travels so easily in the mountains, please no loud music or raucous socializing especially on the deck. Some folks are very sensitive to perfumes, colognes and after-shaves, so please leave these at home and enjoy the sweet smell of our mountain laurel. Thanking you ahead.

To protect decoupage floors no outside shoes to be worn inside the Guest House; please wear the freshly laundered house slippers provided by host.

VEHICLES that do not belong to the immediate guest party are not allowed to be parked, locked and left unattended without prior permission. Taxi or Uber vehicles are not allowed into or thru the adjacent subdivision. If you find you need these services, you will need to drive your vehicle down the mountain to the local Ingles' parking lot (5 minutes away) and have them pick you up and drop you off from that well lite and safe area. Scheduling these vehicles to meet you on the neighbor's private cul-de-sac is not permitted (my property is separate from the adjacent neighborhood subdivision). Thank you for respecting the neighborhood's private property and private subdivision streets.

Some of my guests are vegetarians; therefore, no cooking of meat, fish or fried foods inside the Guest House...please cook these at the Guest House outside grill. Do not use induction pans outside...Specific pans are provided for outside cooking.

There are a couple simple instructions about the use of our septic system, and tossing bed pillows out on the deck, but that can wait until you arrive.

Because of daily pop-up rain all windows and doors must be closed upon leaving the guest house . All doors & windows should also be locked when leaving the property (Exception, the high upper windows may be left open). Full check list of simple rules is posted on front door, such as shut off lights, air or heat, etc.

I have struggled with how to state the following, forgive me if I stumble badly. Please do your best to return in the evenings at an hour that respects the sleeping quiet subdivision you have to drive through. "Quiet time" is from 10PM to 10AM daily. Arriving back at 1AM with car headlights flashing into neighbor's bedroom windows is being disrespectful of my sleeping neighbors, and puts Airbnb on my neighbor's "bad list". Once again thank you for your help in this matter. Certainly not a house rule, but if possible I so much appreciate anyone who is comfortable with placing their used linens in the washing machine prior to leaving...a double thank you for this favor from your host who has arthritis in both hands.

Summer’s place was a good “home base” for our stay for our honeymoon in Asheville. The space was unbelievably clean and spacious, and the scenery was lovely. The cabin is located adjacent to her home, with some tree cover in between. There were many guidelines to abide by, many of which are basic but some of which were thought-consuming, like not placing pillows on the floor, not using rags without first taking off makeup with tissues, not wearing perfume or cologne, and having to take trash with us upon leaving, among other things. We always care for a host’s space with the deepest respect, but coming and being briefed for nearly an hour on the guidelines made us feel on-edge for the duration of our three-night stay. The place was wonderful though, altogether. It was just hard to feel at peace during our stay without constantly running into a rule or guideline that didn’t interfere with our norm. The host is excellent for those who appreciate art and architecture, those who love and desire suggestions for local dives and places to visit, and for making people feel known from the moment they arrive. Our stay was nice and hassle-free, and it’s really easy to get up to the home by just following the yellow and black signs marked along the paved mountain roads. We appreciated the mountain air and wonderful, architecturally unique space!

Response from Summer:
I change my approval...this couple is NO LONGER WELCOME on my property....HONESTY IS PARAMOUNT TO ME. I am so surprised and disappointed in this couples’ review that I have begun my response on a separate page to transfer it here later. Since this couple showed no discomfort at all during their stay, I am shocked to have to write this response. But I am learning that many people who show poor communication skills other than the impersonal Texting, can’t seem to be trusted to be open and honest in their face to face communications. I learned just prior to their leaving to drive here from Ohio that they had not bothered to read any of the House Rules before making their reservations, and I rightly worried that they would do exactly what they have done, complain about something that was different than their normal routines. In fact they have LIED about the time we spent in the guest house going over some of the rules that are listed clearly on the webpage. This took no more than 5 minutes and then we discussed briefly some items about passive and active solar house design which they asked about. The HOUR SPENT TOGETHER WAS IN FACT IN MY STUDIO since Shelby stated that she was very interested in art. They chose to stay so long that I actually had to finally walk them to my front door in order to get on with my day. The only “favors” I asked were the following, “please use the furnished makeup wipes to remove makeup since we can’t put bleach into our septic system. And it’s impossible to get makeup out of white wash clothes. Why she would refer to the new wash clothes as rags is beyond me, rather mean spirited, don’t you think? Also I asked in the same time frame to please wipe grease from any pans so as not to put grease down into the septic as well. (all listed under septic issues). A few times the decorative bed pillows have been tossed around on the floor and even on the outside deck so I simply asked if they could use the inside bench to store the pillows at bedtime, and then I showed them where the outside pillows and throws where to be found in the closet. Shelby asked as we were walking out of the guest house if there was anything else I would like them to do. I was surprised and thought it was nice of her to ask. It was at that time that I asked if they would mind taking their trash with them at the end of their stay since we have had a lot of bear issues with our trash and our county trash pickup wasn’t available in time. They seemed to make no issue of this whatsoever even commented, “Oh, that’s no big deal”, and now they complain about it...geez! Learn to say what you mean, please! Privately, I wrote about their poor communication skills and suggested they improve them before renting another Airbnb. While trying to be kind I see that instead of a 3 star for communication skills I should have marked it a zero.

Summer's cabin is beautiful! Very tastefully decorated. Great views. Peaceful. The outdoor shower alone made it worth the stay. Summer is a very gracious host. She welcomed me and my family into her home. It was like visiting an old friend.

Summer's place was beautiful, clean and open. The cabin was unique with a whole wall of windows that let in natural sunlight. The kitchen came stocked with most utensils needed. No oven, but Asheville has so many restaurants to choose from that it wasn't a big deal. The outdoor shower was also phenomenal. You have to try it at least once. Summer was a helpful host that was easy to talk to, and quick to respond to our messages, and she even let us park under her carport when Hurricane Irma's winds worried us about our car.

Response from Summer:
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and only wished I could have cooked up some sunshine for the two of you...Irma fortunately didn't totally bum-out the days. Looking forward to the time when you both can return.

Our stay at Summer's cabin was an amazing weekend getaway. We were nestled among trees and mountains and loved sleeping with the open windows. The cabin was beautifully and tastefully designed by Summer herself, an amazing artist with a studio right next door. Summer was helpful from the second we arrived to the second we left. We would 100% come back and plan to do so hopefully in the near future! Thank you, Summer :)

Thanks for letting me know you two arrived back home safe and sound. I will check out the photography gallery you didn't have time to visit, and have the info ready for your next Asheville visit. Looking forward to your re-visit... Fondly, Summer

Summer's cabin was a wonderful place to get away for a long weekend. It's outside the city, but it's much closer to the heart of Asheville than it feels as it's set in the woods and offers a great deal of both natural light and natural privacy. The outdoor shower is fantastic - I highly recommend it. The indoor accommodations were more than adequate as well. This is a very peaceful place to stay. As an aside, Summer is a magnificent host - she is kind and generous with her time, not to mention a very gifted artist. She is very much worth getting to know during your stay. TL;DR - Great place, would return.

Response from Summer:
Hi Monty, I always like to ask my new guests for any suggestions to improve the cabin environment, no matter how unimportant one might be for other guests. And I appreciate your honest feed back. Having everyone comfortable is very important to me. These feedbacks help me become a better host as well. Gratefully....Summer
