This is an architect designed granite stone Gate Lodge, formerly part of Humewood Estate. Set on two acres on the periphery of Humewood Castle, it is surrounded by woodland and lush green fields, perfect for a romantic get away, or base from which to explore Wicklow ("The Garden of Ireland") and neighbouring counties.

Kiltegan is a pretty village in close to the border with County Carlow. There are two pubs in Kiltegan, one featuring live music.

The space

This is a unique and romantic cottage, designed by the architect who built it to live in. It looks a bit like a small stone chapel in a meadow, and with open fires, unique architectural details and picture book charm, you will feel you have stepped back in time.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole house and one acre of grounds. Set at the foot of Lugnaquilla, a 925 metre (3,035 ft) tall mountain, and Keadeen Mountain (653 m) overlooking the Glen of Imaal which is backed by the mass of Lugnaquilla.

Interaction with guests

We live about one hour away from the cottage, but will be there to welcome you and show you around and answer any questions you may have. We are contactable by phone and text. In the event we are not available, a friend lives nearby and he can help with any problems or queries.

Other things to note

The Tudors is an Irish/Canadian co-production filmed 80% at Ardmore Studios in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland and 20% at various locations like Dublin City, Dublin Castle, Kilmainham Jail, Phoenix Park and Lord Meath's estate at Killruddery House. All four seasons of "The Tudors" used Ardmore Studios, Luggala, Killruddery House and Gardens, Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin, Christ Church, Humewood Castle, Swords Castle, Drimnagh Castle and Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow, Ireland.

Laws of Attraction starring Pierce Brosnan and Julienne Moore was partly shot in Ireland, where the company filmed entirely in Dublin and Wicklow Counties. Humewood House, a private residence in Kiltegan, County Wicklow, served as the castle which is at the center of the divorce case between Serena and Thorne.

This was the last place we stayed during our trip through Ireland, and it was better than we expected and it's one of the best places I have stayed so far. It's a small victorian cottage, very unique and interesting. There are some amazings places to visit around if you have a car (Wicklow National Park, Glendalough, Sally Gap, etc.). Nicholas and Nicole were an amazing hosts and it was really nice to meet both of them. It's a place to repeat in the future (hopefully).

Charming, cozy, absolutely quiet house decorated with taste and bathed in vegetation. Good starting point to explore the surroundings. Very warm welcome by Nicole, with a fire in a fireplace and flowers on the table. Throughout our stay we have got lots of support from Nicole and Nicholas, they answered quickly all our questions giving good advices. We felt really welcome.

I'm an architect, so I especially love our Victorian stone gate lodge which was designed by the English architect, William White (), to live in while he worked on Humewood Castle. (White was a 19th century Gothic revival architect noted for his Gothic revival architecture and church restorations.

Our cottage looks like a small chapel in a meadow. Set on two acres surrounded by woodland, it's utterly tranquil, the perfect place to catch up on your reading, listen to music, write or compose or just sit outside and absorb nature.

For those more active, Wicklow is known as "the Garden of Ireland" and there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy from hiking, hill walking, canoeing, fishing, riding, bird watching.

I love sketching and painting, cooking and reading (history, novels, travel literature). The house is stocked with plenty of books and I'd be happy to advise about things to do and see in the area, including historical sites.

Whether traveling for work or pleasure, I like to stay somewhere off the beaten path, somewhere only locals know and get tips on where to go, what to see and eat, etc. from the locals. I'd be happy to provide such information for my guests.
