Charming traditional korean house with a modern touch in the heart of Seoul. Ideally located in the middle of picturesque village Bukchon with plentiful artistic places, cafes, restaurants, historic spots in the immediate vicinity. If you want to enjoy relaxed atmosphere in the urban core, this is the place to be!

The space

The house was first built in 1934. The 1930s marks one of its most peculiar times in korean history for the rapid course of modernization under Japanese occupation and for the social chaos caused by it. The house preserves unique housing style only found in those times. Travel back in time for a day, a week or as long as you like and feel this transitional state of old Peninsula that makes this period so singular.

Guest access

The house has a well-equipped kitchen, one bathroom and 2 rooms which sleep up to 4 persons, one of them switchable to common area to enjoy tea-drinking. Small courtyard is an extra gem.

All the wooden framed windows/doors looking out to the courtyard. Enjoy the sunshine and the breeze coming in from outside like korean noblemen used to do.

We are also equipped with traditional tea utensil and assorted korean teas. Experience Korean tea culture practiced over a thousand years in the land of Morning Calm.

I will recommend every of my friends who travel to Seoul to live in Ben's home. It is an impressive experience to live in Ben's traditional Korean house! The house is well-located, full-furnished, extraordinary tidy and clean, and the extremely quiet at night will promise your sleeping. Hope to travel and stay there again!

When I booked this Hanok home I was not aware of the location as it was my first visit to Seoul, Korea. This home is located in a highly tourist area Buckchon Hanok Village. I enjoyed the traditional aspect of the Korean home. As for the accommodations it was rather poor. When we checked in I asked Ben for an extra bed since my friend came with me. I had booked the place for two so I was charged for two people. He told me that we would be charge additional for another bed. During the week we had to deal with an infestation of mosquitos. My girlfriend and I had many mosquito bites throughout the week. It made sleeping difficult because we had to keep moving the mosquito zapper into different rooms. Even after keeping the doors closed there were many mosquitos. I think they were coming in from the bathroom but we could never find the source. We were not given enough toilet paper or had any kitchen towels or paper towels. We also had to deal with the sewage odor. I had bought some intense and some expensive perfume oil to try to mask the odor but it did not work. Overall this experience was average.

Ben's Hanok is fantastic, and he is the perfect host. It's a beautiful, traditional building on a secluded street right in the heart of Bukchon. It's very easy to walk to many sights right from your front door. Not only this, but Ben is a perfect host. He let us arrive early to drop our bags, and on check in we shared some traditional tea whilst talking about the best things to do. All in all, a perfect stay.

I've always wanted to stay in a hanok (traditional korean home) and I finally got a chance to do it, thanks to Ben! It had all the modern amenities (AC, hot water, renovated kitchen and bathroom, even an espresso machine) with a traditional feel, which was exactly what I was hoping for. The decor was thoughtfully selected and well placed and the neighborhood was super quiet at night. Sleeping on a floor mattress might be uncomfortable for those who might be more attached to a bed mattress, however I very much enjoyed it. Tip: if you rent a hanbok (traditional Korean dress), you can get free entrance to Changdeokgung Palace

가족들과 좋은시간 보내고 갑니다. 관광객으로 복닥이는 북촌거리 한복판에 우리만의 조용한 오아시스라니.. 가을이면 생각나는 곳이 될꺼 같아요 :-)
