About this listing

Bring your Kayaks and prepare to relax. This house is a 5 minute drive from the UNESCO heritage town of Lunenburg on the South Shore of Nova Scotia Canada. The property is directly on Tanners Pass and is a perfect location to launch your Kayak for daily trips. The tide changes are remarkable and fascinating for children and adults alike. The property is surrounded by rock cliffs creating natural privacy. Don't forget to look at the stars at night!

The space

This is a one of a kind property. You think you're on a gentle river with slate outcrops surrounding you. But this is the ocean and the vista changes daily with the tides. The flora in the area are quite different from just down the road. Succulents abound. Pick blueberries on the road sides. Visit a cranberry farm down the street.

Guest access

The house and property are yours to explore. There are three white outbuildings on the property that are locked and off limits for your safety. The neighbours red cottage is up the cliff and not part of this property.

We loved how close to Lunenburg this place was, while being in a very quiet and scenic spot. The night sky was very dramatic with no light pollution. The house was very well equipped with everything we needed in terms of kitchen and towels etc. It was a bit quirky...the large windows didn't open, only small ones, so it did get a bit airless in the afternoons which were warm during our stay. The second bedroom was a basement room with windows on one side which my 8 year old son didn't want to sleep in as it felt a bit scary for him. The bathrooms are dated with toilets that made a very loud sound when they flushed which I'm guessing was part of some kind of composting system or something. But the house was very clean and overall had a good feel to it. It felt like someones home. We loved having the tidal inlet out the back and watching the water go up and down was really fun and beautiful. It's also not far to drive to Hirtle's Beach where we had a great swim and also we really enjoyed the walk around Gaff Point. We also enjoyed going to Blue Rocks. Great ice-cream at the store there! Alena was a very responsive host and communicated clearly with us. We had a very relaxing stay in her home and absolutely loved the surrounding area. Although the place is not luxurious or modern,I was glad that we made this choice. Thank you Alena!

A great quiet place to relax and get away from it all. The back deck sits overlooking a beautiful tidal inlet. It is very close to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg for ease of day trip adventures.

This offering is wysiwyg in the great sense. Very well equipped home with lots of space. Terrific setting. Very quiet. Great deck overlooking the tidal lagoon. We took along shortie wetsuits and swam frequently at high tide. The communication with the host was perfect before, during and after the rental. Many nice touches and fully equipped for cooking inside or on the grill on the deck. It's close enough to Lunenburg to get back and forth easily by car and shop for food and have access to restaurants, but remote enough to be more like a country cabin than a house at the edge of a village. Recommend bringing a kayak or other small vessel if you have one. You could easily explore around Heckman's island and launch from the deck along the water. Overall: excellent

This is a wonderful place to stay. I loved how close it was to everything in the Lunenburg area, including some great hikes and the historic downtown. All within a quick drive. The home is fixed up real nice and the best part is how private and quiet the setting is. Nice and cozy, I'd definitely stay there again!
