Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families with kids. In addition to the bedroom and ensuite bath, guests have access to common areas, including kitchen and dining rooms, laundry, family room, den w/fireplace, foyer w/piano, and covered front porch. Boyds is a village with considerably more green space and water than either residential or commercial acreage. We are centrally located with easy access to the many cultural sites of the Mid-Atlantic Region.
This is one of three guest bedrooms on the main floor of the residence, each of which has a private bath and shares the common areas. The house is situated on two acres, half of which is reserved for agro-business activities. The property owner is a builder and farmer, and his professional equipment, including trucks, trailers, portable sawmill, logs and tools, are stored on the eastern half of the two acres lot. He enjoys introducing guests large and small to his current projects, but emphasizes that when he is not on site, for safety reasons, guests are not permitted in the area containing the sawmill, logs, heavy machinery, and barn/greenhouse (in process). We are on the edge of Montgomery County's agricultural reserve in which properties are restricted to no less than 25 acres per residence. To the north are large farms and rolling hills with more horses than when they were the principal mode of transportation. To the south, one initially encounters parkland and lake, and afterward the I-270 high technology corridor with research centers and more densely populated cities offering an array of urban amenities.
Your official hosts are John and Christine, who reside at our family's "Kilmarnock Farm", about a half mile down the road. They are employed on weekdays, but are available to assist guests on weekends or week nights. As a retired professor and co-host, Grandma Marilyn meet guests at other times. Guillermo, our long-time handyman, works from 9-5, M-F, and can also assist when needed. We ask our guests to keep us informed of any special needs, dietary or otherwise. We are dedicated to making your stay as comfortable and carefree as possible.
Other things to note
The kitchen is fully equipped, and we try to provide breakfast makings for the first several days of your visit. The refrigerator and laundry are shared, so please mark your personal items, and clean up after every use.
Guests with children must notify hosts no less than two days prior to visit so sleeping arrangements can be defined and age appropriate toys and games assembled. Intoxication and/or illegal drug usage are causes for eviction. Smoking is not permitted inside the residence, but is allowed outside on the front porch.
