The Black Barn is located in one of the most desirable areas of Cambria right in the heart of East Village and within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, galleries, cafes, and a short walk or drive to the ocean.

The Oak Room is a second floor private room with private bathroom and is part of an entire house that includes four separate guest suites. Guests enter through the main front door and share the common living spaces such as the living and dining rooms and outdoor patio.

The space

Your room is on the second floor. At the top of the landing are two doors to your right. The Oak room is the door on the right and is one of four private rooms in a beautiful, unique, and newly opened bed and breakfast. The house is very well made and the bedrooms are set off the street for a peaceful and quiet stay.

Room service available upon request.

Breakfast is served each morning between 8-10am in our family-style dining room and you may be joined by the other guests staying in Black Barn as well as guests in our Victorian bed and breakfast next door.

The living area is also open to guests to relax by the fire, play a game of chess, or simply engage with others.

The owner of Black Barn also owns The Shop Next Door, specializing in the beautiful and unique Amish-made furniture, and collectibles, and is a must-see when you are in town!

Guest access

Guests have full access to the downstairs living and dining areas of the home as well as the front outside patio. Private guest parking directly behind Black Barn.

Interaction with guests

Guests arriving between 3-5pm should go to The Shop Next Door to pick up their key and will be shown to their room at that time.

Guests arriving after 5pm need to call us to pre-arrange their check in time and make sure they have received the information they need for an independent check in.

Other things to note

Very convenient location and access to the town of Cambria, especially East Village. You can literally walk out your door and into town.

Short drive to the ocean and Moonstone Beach Drive.

Convenient access to Hwy. 1 and Hearst Castle, the Elephant Seals, and Big Sur to the North. Paso Robles and Templeton Wine Country to the East, Harmony Headlands, and the towns of Harmony, Cayucos, Morro Bay, and San Luis Obispo to the South.

We checked in at 8 pm and were pleased to be greeted and made to feel welcome. The surrounding grounds and gardens were beautiful. Breakfasts included quiche, fruits, croissants, scones, juice and coffee. The bed was comfortable. We could have used a fan or screens for fresh air. We also could have used our rubbish emptied and the bed made.

Response from Bruce:
Hi Eric and thank you for your review and for your feedback. We are so glad you felt welcomed and enjoyed the beauty, comfort, and breakfasts. As a bed and breakfast, we actually do not offer daily room service to our guests, but we do state that "room service is available upon request." This is mentioned on our website and I am going to move that information to a place that will hopefully be more visible to guests. Thanks again!

We loved our stay! The accommodations were divine. Very thoughtfully designed, comfortable, and beautiful hand-crafted furniture. The rooms were quiet, like we were the only ones there, even though there were other rooms nearby. The hosts and breakfasts were excellent. Don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed!

Living in LA, Cambria is one of our favorite getaways. Always relaxing, and just a completely different lifestyle from further down south. We come up twice a year and generally stay on Moonstone Beach but wanted to try something different and more in town this time. While I definitely missed the beach, I'm glad we did. Absolutely stunning remodel of an antique barn with a beautiful mix of old wood and new furnishings. Michelle was friendly and greeted us / got us settled but after that we were very much on our own (which we prefer). We've had some very awkward and intrusive B&B experiences over the years and thankfully this was not one of them. Breakfast was simple but delicious. Room was a great, comfortable space with plenty of room for my wife and I. Balcony and fireplace were both nice touches. I think we both would have appreciated a bit more privacy in terms of the toilet area (the sliding doors are privacy glass, but still very see-through) . A fan of some kind would be a welcome addition to the room as the windows don't provide much air flow and there's screen door on the balcony. Minor quibbles for an insanely gorgeous place to stay. Great live music coming from Robin's next door (great restaurant) was definitely lovely on Sunday night. Because it was so quiet and peaceful most of the time, the construction/landscaping happening out back was less than ideal. I know this stuff has to happen at some point, but both of our mornings we were woken up around 7-7:30am by work right outside our bedroom window. Would have definitely appreciated this starting at 9am (or later). Overall an amazing place and as long as the construction/landscaping is done I can't recommend it enough.

I'm a long-time resident and Bed and Breakfast owner in Cambria. I also own a shop two doors down from the Black Barn featuring hand-made furniture purchased from the Amish in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

I built the Black Barn by restoring an original barn on this site from the 1800. It is detailed with wood from my great-great-grandfather's Pennsylvania barn built in the 1870's. It features lovely wood beams, wide plank floors, huge windows, and Amish furniture throughout. And it is in one of the best locations in Cambria!

Michelle is my co-host for the Black Barn and she also prepares many of the breakfasts for guests from favorite family recipes.

Enjoy your stay!
