Great experience! Daniela was always helpful in organizing taxis to go to Quito and coming back (or pretty much anywhere we needed to be). We were there because we had to attend a seminar at the British School of Quito.. so the Casa Kiliku was a perfect place to come back to and work in peace. Everyone was really friendly.. and the view was spectacular (I didn't get bored of it!). I definitely recommand it! It's a really beautiful place to come back too! Thanks Iris and Daniela for everything!

I had a wonderful stay at Casa Kiliku. The facility is clean, a little isolated and so relaxing. This was our first stop in Ecuador and it was a great way to ease ourselves into a beautiful country. I'd recommend Casa Kiliku to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing experience in a small village. It's located on the banks of an inactive volcano, which serves as a great day hike. Food options nearby were limited, so the host let us use the fire pit to roast a chicken. Casa Kiliku is not very close to Quito, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to go out in Quito during the night time, but it's a short taxi ride from the airport.

The Kiliku is a little hawk which lives here on our volcano, the Ilalo. For us he is the symbol of freedom and as he is seeing the reality from high above, it means that our place helps give our guests an overview of the Ecuadorian reality, whether you are a traveller passing through or arriving in the country preparing for a long time stay.

We love to share our paradise, where we have been living and creating films, radio plays, articles or compositions for the last 19 years. The spectacular view and ambiance from our little spot can help to inspire creativity and to develop projects of any kind. Our studios are on the mountainside surrounded by gardens of flowers and medicinal plants and trees.

Casa Kiliku is a place created by artists. Every space is unique, you can stay in “The Tower”, in “The Palm Suite”, the big “Star house” or in the little “Garden House”. Casa Kiliku was built with ecological local materials: the fully furnished studios and appartments are built by materials from our volcano, with bricks or adobe and wood. We we promote a sustainable way of living and in the future we will promote permaculture projects.

As Casa Kiliku is also a retreat centre and yoga school, thus you can participate in dance or yoga classes or even give a workshop yourself. You can stay on the big terrace and chat with other guests who are staying here or just lie in the hammock and read or meditate on treetops dancing in the wind.

For us it is pure luxury, to offer a place for vacational rental in a rural environment at the edge of the ecological reserve Ilalo and so close to the centre of Quito, 25 minutes by car. The taxi from Quito city centre costs 15 dollars, and the little village bus, which takes a little longer, stops in front of our door. The new airport, too, you can reach in 25-45 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Close by there are places where the national and international community mingles, like the "Café Mare", "CafeArte" "La Casa de Rafa" or the "Bio Market". Here you can buy organic food and German bread, have a coffee and a chat or enjoy a story telling or a concert. Families with children are welcomed everywhere here. Within walking distance there is also an alternative Kindergarten, School and the Collegio Pachamama.

Just 3 kilometres down the road in Tumbaco, you find everything you need: local shops, banks and shopping malls.

Our guests are travelers, artists, international technicians and scientists, language students, nature and Ecuadorean culture lovers, diplomats, spiritual seeker, open minded people. This is a perfect first arrival destination for people planning a long term stay in Ecuador.

Our team, Daniela, Iris and David are available to assist you with anything you might need, travel organisation, tours, day trips and local information. So again: welcome to Casa Kiliku on the volcano Ilalo (don´t worry it´s extinct).
