"Experience the adventure of nature while nestled in the community of Clogheen town.
*Opened January 2017* We have reimagined this building into a chic, modern interior, that is deliberately highly respectful of a conserved and restored town house dating from the 1700’s. Converting this formerly cold barn of a stone house, into a beautiful, comfortable and warm (it's currently self-regulating at 19-21 Deg. C without purchased heat inputs), natural light filled building, has been a labour of love. The end product, is an exemplary project in sustainable conservation, repurposing of a tired old building, and intelligently simplified, eco-built warm and cosy, large new extension.
The focus has been on using only natural, breathing, insulating and fire resistant materials e.g. cork (from Portugese cork oak trees), recycled newsprint, eco-plasterboards, lime wall plasters, clay paints and in possibly a first for Ireland, an electrical system designed to screen guests from the worst ill effects of deleterious EMF and WiFi fields, particularly during the critical restorative sleeping phase. There are layers and layers of leading edge, best practices interwoven throughout the rehabilitation of this visually minimalist, uncluttered, wonderful building, just waiting for you to experience it for yourself...
Come and stay a while to experience this healing and relaxing building transformation, and wander out into the adjoining 11 acres with it's 0.5km of trout river bank walk, or explore the ongoing wilderness regeneration project on the land. Why not take to the mountains in the adjoining Knockmealdowns and Galtees, or if it takes your fancy, wander the maze of local bótharíns on your bike or visit The Vee Pass, a short five minute drive away. You could also visit Lismore, Cashel and Cahir castles nearby or Mitchelstown Cave's which are only a short drive away. There are nearby monastic ruins to be seen or you could go even further back into pre-history seeking out the 5,000+ recorded ancient monuments in the Munster Vales, a sub-set of Ireland's Ancient East trail. Or what about a thoroughly modern experience of motor car racing...
Come and stay to experience a truly unique building, our stories and history. You just might forge new wonderful memories of your own...
We hope to see you soon,
The Gleeson Family.
