A typical Swedish little red cottage dating to early 1800s, which lies next to a small bird lake and with the Swedish forest surrounding the area. Large grass lawn to run around, safe, tranquil and rich in wildlife. A peacefull paradise.

The space

The cottage contain 6 rooms and a kitchen, bathroom and two hall ways. The cottage looks small from the outside, but when steeping in, the concept of small changes to a much larger. The cottage easily can hold 6-7 individuals. The windows are large and there are plenty of them, the roof is low (190 cm) just like it was back in the days. A cosy and comfy cottage the whole family can hold!

Guest access

The guest has access to the bathroom with a shower & toilet and the kitchen with a stove, oven, large freezer, fridge and dishwasher. Washing machine can be arranged if asked for. There is toaster, egg-boiler and other kitchen electronics. There is also a BBQ to use, game equipment for indoor and outdoor - for summer and winter. Chairs and tables for outdoors can also be used and is easy to move around to your favorite spot. If needed, Internet is accessible through a wire and we are working on getting access to a wifi zone. There is a TV in the cottage for those rainy nights where you can watch your dvds :) Bicycle can be arranged. In winter ice skating can be done on the lake - if frozen :)

Interaction with guests

50 meter from the cottage is the house of the owners. The owners will be there (most likely) all the time, but will of course leave the guest alone. The owners are there for you, as much as you like. If you wonder where to go, what to see and where to buy food, they will gladly help you. Just let them know what type of guest you are!

Other things to note

Further tips for things to do in the surroundings, will gladely be given by the owners. Just ask!

The bathroom is perhaps the uncharmiest room, due to iron in the water, the bath tub, zink and toilet are stained. Nothing dangerous, just not nice looking. The host is aware of this issue and is planning a renovation of the bathroom the coming years.

The kitchen, living room, entrance room, hallway and main bedroom were renovated in 2015/ 2016. The cottage has a new roof and the wooden floor in most rooms have been polished.

The water in the tap is drinkable, but taste a bit of iron, this is not dangerous!

Everyone wants guest who take care of their own trash and mess. So do we. Guest throwing trash in the nature or destroying the surroundings are not welcome. We want guest who are responsible and literary treats our home as theirs. Smoking is allowed outside if disposed afterwards in a separate container. The owners are recycling everything that can be recycled including food - cigarettes however, needs to go in the general waste. Music is allowed to be played outdoors loud but not in a disturbing level. We had an absolutely wonderful time in the lovely red cottage. The location just next to the lake is perfect, we took a few rowing-trips and the kids try to fish a little bit. The forest around is great for adventure. And the house itself i newly renovated but in an old-fashion style. There are a few nice spots to visit in the area (which in this part of Sweden means within half an hour drive): Tranäs for shopping, Sund for swimming and Torpöns Färjeläge with a small restaurant and a cable ferry. We also went to Eksjö (45 mins), which is a lovely old town, and to Astrid Lindgrens Värden, Katthult and Bullerbyn (all 1h15min away around Vimmerby), which are all lovely places if you are a fan of Pipi, Emil, Ronja, Madicken and all the other characters from Lindgrens books. The communication with Amanda and the rest of the family was easy. We were a bit surprised, that the owners new house is just 50 meters behind the red cottage, but they were away most of the time, and we had it all to ourselves.

We enjoyed that place very much. The silence, the garden and the lake was that what we looked for, and the place was perfect. Our 3 children were most of the time on the boat on the lake the first 3 days. Because the lake is not that big and it is mostly very shallow (mainly <1m, because of drought 0,5m water were missing) it was no problem to let them alone on the lake. That we couldnt swim in the lake was not the big issue, first it was quite cool outside for us, and there are other lakes in the close surrounding. We were completly overwhelmed about how the house was arranged and designed inside, eg. the color of that hat and coat hangers in the central bed room corresponded with colors in the wall paper, that can´t be conincidence :) and there were flowers around in the house. We loved all the books and comics in the house. The kitchen was complete, so we could cook as at home. All of us enjoyed the visit/find of so many animals eg älgs, kingfisher, deers, herons, snake aso. We had no problems with moscitos, just some around. All in all we had a wonderful, calm time and there was no need to spend time on some other places. Thanks for that nice place!

A quiet and peaceful place in the forrest. Beautiful house, with comfy beds and a lot of resting space. The garden is wonderful in summertimes, and ends in a small lake. Had a lot of fishing in the lake and nice and restful afternoons in the garden. The house is well set for familiy with children, mine loved it there.

If you like bats in your bedroom this is the place to be for you. Or as the owner wrote to us in an email after we left a day early due to the bats flying around our bedrooms: "it is strange to react the way you did after you have booked a cottage in the middle of the forest. It is reasonable to expect wild animals in the area". Yes, in the area, but not that kind of wildlife IN the house. We have had three days/nights in a row bats in the house. One we found in the kitchen one morning, the other one flying around our bedroom and sitting right beside our bed while we were trying to sleep and more in the stairway. We decided to leave after three nights with not a lot of sleep. The sorroundings are very nice and the parents of the owner were very kind. The house of the parents is directly next to the cottage and not 50 or 200 meters away. One of the main things to rent a house is to sleep, we were not able to do so. If I had wanted to encounter wildlife I would have used my tent and even then there would be no wildlife of that sort IN my tent. If you like things like that stay here - for us and especially our small children this is not the place.

We had a relaxing time in the cottage! The nature is beautiful, it is really quiet and perfect for fishing, just like the pictures and the description says. We were 6 adults and it didn't feel too small at all. The men loved the finishing and caught a big pike! We felt very welcome and could get extra tips and help from the hosts as they just leave 200m away. Would definitely recommend it.

The house of Amanda and her lovely parents Håkan and Annika is a dream come true. It's the most peaceful, quiet and beautiful place you could imagine. Driving through a small forest and ending up at a cozy house and a lake, that is not even shown on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps (nevertheless the pikes know this lake :)). Thanks to Gabriel's help the garden and the flowers are like out of a fairytale. A hidden paradise for everyone who wants to experience the Swedish hospitality and needs a relaxing time off. Thank you Håkan and Annika for the entertaining and interesting afternoon conversations and the tips for our further trip. We had a great time at your place. All the best to you all, Alexander and Sheila

From Gothenburg, Sweden. Working as an archaeologist, loves old things and weird things, everything that makes a person and a place special. Would love to have lived in each and every country in the world if it would have been possible just to get a taste of all wonderful things out there. At the moment living in Malta, Europe and am digging down the Mediterranean past.
