The space

Great place to escape the bustle of Austin while staying close to the city. OSR backs up to the 23000 acre Balconies Canyonland Preserve, and due to the lack of light pollution the sky is clear & reveals an abundace of stars. It is a stargazers delight.

This is a neat property, and Matthew is an attentive host! Our family of six stayed for just one night on very short notice, and I think Matthew treated us the same as though we were staying for a week. He was always very responsive to any questions we had, and he went out of his way to build us a big bonfire! The dog and goats were a huge hit with our kids, and they were very entertaining to watch. While the place is country living for sure (it's not a resort, so don't expect marble showers) it is exactly what we expected and worked fine for us. The beds were very comfortable, too. Our kids are already asking when we can go back!

Matthew was an amazing host, the ranch is a very nice break from staying in the city. Buddy the dog is very friendly yet not bothersome, cheese the goat on the other hand was obnoxious but still managed to be the highlight of many of my photos. Matthew had no problem putting cheese in her pen as well as giving us instructions how in case we felt it was necessary, (it wasn’t.) The ranch is adorned with Matthews amazing photography. He was very helpful. Restaurants and a grocery store are about 10 minutes away and driving to Austin is very manageable. One of the best amenities was an amazingly clear view of the stars at night. My wife, 3 year old daughter and I truly loved our time there. We will certainly be visiting The Old Stick Ranch again.

Great place and a great Host. Gave us a great experience. Good area to take some great pictures during the night. His pets were great hosts! I would recommend to couples romantic getaway that likes to sit front of little wood fire with the star looking above.

Matt's place was great! If you want something quiet and relaxing but not hours away from the city. Matt was very laid back, communicated very well, and was quick to make any accomodations that we needed. Having buddy and cheese around also definitely a bonus! Thanks for the great stay!

If you want a quiet place far out of the city with some dark skies, check this out. The stars were awesome from the horse arena. This is a nice big piece of property that will allow you to relax plenty and its not so far away from anything either. You'll even be visited by Cheese the goat and Buddy the dog, Buddy is so sweet! We slept very comfortably as the place is quite quaint. If you love art Matt is a great photographer and has decorated the place with a lot of colorful art. Matt was a great host!

Old Stick Ranch isn't for everyone, but if you are like us and use Airbnb to find eclectic, unusual, fun accommodations with more character than you can shake an old stick at, then you'll love Matthews place. Our kids loved the pool and the swing and the dog and the evening charm and hanging out with Matthew. We loved evening campfires, great music, the quirky Austin charm.... comfortable inside, great porch, etc. loved it.

Matthew's ranch has a touch of the old Austin magic. You remember the old Austin...vibrant, wild and without a hint of pretense. The landscape itself is sprawling, and despite the inclement weather preventing us from exploring, it's obvious that Matthew is a careful steward of the land.
