Genoa is a kind of decayed port city glorious, whose decay, however, is what makes it so interesting and pretty. The façades of the large palaces are hidden in sloping alleys, but still appealing, and there are really curious treats for anyone in every alley. Today, too, the old harbor has been renovated by the local and international archipelago Renzo Piano, and currently contains some of the modern trendy architecture sites, a delightful marina, and numerous seafood bars and shops.
The historic center of Genoa is served by buses only around some squares and important streets (Piazza Acquaverde for the Piazza Principe Station, Nunziata Square, Largo Zecca, Piazza Corvetto, Piazza Caricamento). Its carousel alleys are so narrow that no vehicular traffic is physically possible, and must be visited on foot - the distances are certainly not huge anyway.
AMT also operates a public navigation service called Navebus (check the timetables here: ) linking the Ancient Port to Pegli. It is a great and cheap way to have a look at the city from the sea; Once in Pegli, you can visit the public park of Villa Pallavicini.
