This fully renovated Modern Rustic 2 bed 1.5 bath mid-century ranch house is a calm, peaceful oasis on a stunning desert setting 1/2 mile from Joshua Tree National Park entrance. Perfect for two families and/or couples, with a fully stocked kitchen and top notch amenities. Dogs welcomed.

The space
Beautiful vista filled days and star filled nights await at our (modesty aside) impeccably appointed and charmingly comfortable home. Our neighbors are close enough to keep an eye out for each other, but far enough away to provide complete privacy.

Ocotillo Verde’s history can be seen in its polished concrete floor. Starting it’s long life as a homestead cabin, the home was added onto twice, the second time in 1948 when it was officially added to the county register. Extensive renovations completed in 2013 have modernized the original structure while preserving its character and beauty. The spacious 1200 sq ft interior offers a good balance of natural light and rich materials, examples of Modern Rustic wood and steel craftsmanship, and thoughtful detailing is found throughout.

The home sits on 5 acres and is filled with art and visual puns, 1/2 mile from the main Joshua Tree park entrance, designed for two families and/or couples to stay comfortably. The home is the perfect place to get away to the quiet and solitude of the high desert.

We have a fully fenced yard 1 acre yard full of trees that is perfect for your furry companions so that they too can enjoy the outdoors.

The first bedroom has a California king bed along with a twin trundle, and the second has a queen bed with a full size futon that doubles as a comfy couch. Each has it's own private door to the outside.

The great room has vaulted ceilings and consists of a fully stocked kitchen, living room and dining table accomodating 8+. The kitchen features an eat-in island along with full size refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, pantry and cooktop. Outside we have with side-by-side gas and charcoal grills. There is also a full size washer and dryer in an enclosed alcove next to the kitchen.

The main bathroom has an extra large soaking tub that can fit two, perfect for relaxing after a long climb or hike. It also features a spacious rain-head shower, which can also fit two (or more, really).

The village of Joshua Tree itself is a charming, eclectic and walkable town, with one-of-a-kind art galleries, unique boutiques and restaurants and even a saloon. Multiple outfitter stores offer climbing and hiking supplies, books and information, along side the National Park Visitors Center. Saturday mornings there's a Certified Farmers Market right in town. Crossroads Cafe, Natural Sisters, Pie for the People, and Sam's Indian Restaurant (which also has amazing pizza and subs). While you can find most things you need in the village, we recommend stocking up on groceries in Yucca Valley, 7 miles to the west.

The home generally rents for $245 Friday and Saturday, and $165-$215 Sunday through Thursday, through 2017. Higher rates and minimum stays may apply during holidays and during holidays and special events. There is a 10% discount if you book a week or more. Rates subject to change.

Keep an eye out for last minute deals, and will entertain single night stays on weekends if booked within 36 hours of your stay. We look forward to discussing your particular needs and circumstances!

For groups of eight or less, we have a flat cleaning fee of $75 regardless of number of days stayed. We charge an additional $25 per person per night for groups over six. We highly recommend against trying to book groups of more than 8 people: the wear on the septic tank and lack of bed space overwhelms the house.

Please be aware that we cannot have anything other than toilet paper flushed down the toilets (beyond the obvious).

Also, if you are checking out early (11am or before), please text/message me so I can let our housekeeper Tiffany know. It really helps us accommodate other guests if they want to check in early.

While we welcome cats and dogs, pet owners must notify us at time of rental and an add'l $50 cleaning fee will be required. No exceptions.

If the propane tank on the grill is out, we always keep a spare in the shed. Notify me and I'll tell you how to find it.

Guest access
You will have access to the entire house and grounds, except for the enclosed garage.

Other things to note
Before turning on the A/C, please use the evaporative cooler by the TV. The controls are on the front of it. It is far more green and instant than A/C, and will cool a house surprisingly well.

Joshua Tree Roasting Company coffee beans are provided, and help yourselves to condiments, spices and the like. Please take advantage of the book and DVD library, and feel free to do a book swap. Unfortunately, we can no longer allow open fires in our fire pit as San Bernardino County has placed a moratorium on open flame pits due to exceptionally dry brush and drought conditions. Fire pits are still allowed in campsites in the park, however.

Our housekeeper is meticulous and thorough, but the house is not air-tight due to a natural cooling system in the venting space above the ceiling. This means there is dust in the air, inside the house, especially when it gets windy. There may be dust on some of the surfaces when you arrive. This doesn't mean it hasn't been cleaned recently, but simply that living in the desert in a windy canyon has its' costs. Only two very fastidious guests have mentioned it via private feedback in over 1.5 years, but if you think this is a deal breaker, perhaps you might consider another Airbnb home in the area.

If you have pets please note that while we have a fully fenced yard we would not recommend leaving small pets outside at night (at our place or any place in the area) as there are coyotes. Also while dogs are allowed in Joshua Tree National Park please note they are not allowed on most trails within the park.

We have a two night minimum for weekends.

The house is located in Monument Manor, very close to the park entrance. Most homes are on 5 acre plots of land, so houses are close enough to look out for each other, but far enough away for true privacy. There is quite a bit of interesting architecture nearby, providing great points of interest for local hikes and bike rides.

During your stay
We live in Long Beach, so our interaction with guests is minimal. We do have a property manager who lives about 15 miles away in case anything comes up and you need to call him, but otherwise you will not see him.
