In 1996 we had the property listed with the National Monument’s Council and took up the challenge to restore the old farmhouse – always bearing in mind that the challenge in restoring and maintaining any old building remains staying true to the authenticity of the structure. The income from the guest house allows us to keep the property in an immaculate condition. We are particularly proud of the garden which has formal elements in keeping with the Georgian style of the house, but also more informal flowerbeds with perennials, a small orchard and a spectacular rose garden.

Interaction with guests
We enjoy interacting with our guests. Fairview Homestead is a 5 bedroom guest house in B&B style - that means we, the owners, live on the premises. We are led by our guest regarding interaction - some guests request dinner at the family table; others require a more private experience.
Other things to note
Breakfast is excluded, but you are welcome to book breakfast as an extra as so many of our regular guests do.
The only rules I can think of are : no smoking inside ; no non-paying guests in the bedrooms longer than 10 minutes; no cigarette buds in the garden, no unsupervised children in the swimming pool, clean the kitchen, be nice to the hosts...
That was said 'tongue in cheek' ! We have had paying guests in our house for more than 20 years and I've never had to pin down rules, so I do not think I am going to start now!
We bought Fairview in 1994 -the restoration and upkeep has been an ongoing labour of love. Desmond and I love traveling and hiking – apart from the numerous South African hiking trails, we have walked the Camino to Santiago across Portugal,Spain and France. It does not matter where our annual holidays are – there will always be at least one hike fitted in and one garden on the ‘must see’ list.
