Enjoy three floors of pure fun in this sophisticated and surprisingly playful space. We are the closest freestanding private home to the WhiteHouse in DC -- walkability score is 100%. Highlighted in Washington Post; this tantalizing structure which once housed Supreme Court Justice Holmes Jr. now welcomes all visitors - especially families. 1.5 blocks from the Circle. 3 blocks from Foggy Bottom. 10 blks from Georgetown. And, nearly across the street from the Metro... You will love it! :-)

The space

We have lived here happily for over 15 years and the last 10 with our kids during which time the house has transformed in hidden but profound ways. The house has a warm spirit. Enjoy wine and cheese on the second floor deck while your kids swing from the indoor rope ladder or play pirates on the back deck... ship's wheel included. The unassuming coffee table you see pictured pops up with a set of wooden trains and tracks.
And, bed time ... BED TIME !... that's when the fun begins. There are three distinct bedroom spaces. In the first room (the kids room) a car bed, suited to a 6 year old, races beneath a loft bed extraordinaire, suited to a person of 5'11" and willing to sleep in the clouds. With two reading nooks and connected by sky ladders this room is a kids heaven and a favorite destination for sleepovers. In the second adjoining bedroom (the master bedroom) is an extremely comfortable queen bed and long desk space. And, for a little privacy, use the third bedroom space (a queen-sized murphy-bed) on the floor below and throw open the deck door to be woken by bird and street song. This room is separated by a divider from the living room and best suited of the couple likely to stay up the latest or raid the fridge at night. It's my favorite spot! Finally, the last potential sleeping area is the L-shaped sofa pictured in the ad.
I would say our house comfortably sleeps two couples plus one teenager under 5'11" and one child of 6... or, for budget-sensitive hipsters, placing two more adults toe-to-toe on the long L-shared sofa seen in the ad is a crazy reality a few guests have already successfully pioneered. I would say, if you want the sofa area to be reasonably comfortable for two adults you can take the mattress from the loft bed upstairs and place it on the floor beneath. Lots of possibilities, it's a fun flexible house!

Other things to note

Transportation abounds.
This is the ideal place to walk the city, as centrally located as you could ever want.
We are also 1.5 blocks from the red line, and about 8 minute walk from the blue/orange line.
Uber is great in DC too, and if you prefer to cab the St Gregory and Mandarin Hotels are a hundred feet away in either direction on NH Ave. and always have a cab line going.
If you bring your own car we potentially have a spot available for you in our driveway at a rate of $15/night - much less than public parking in the area. Just contact us and reserve the spot right away... first come first served.
Washington BikeShare is also only 400 feet away.

I stayed with three friends and the house has all the quirks and charm of an older brick home. The kitchen/dining/living room were a comfortable haven after long days of sightseeing in DC. The beds are firm and comfortable and the children's room is indeed a paradise if you are traveling with one or two children. Everything felt clean; having two bathrooms for 4 persons was important too. We loved the location -- a lovely neighborhood, and so convenient to the Metro and city busses, to many excellent restaurants, and Trader Joe's is a reasonable walk too. Tedd kept in contact with us throughout our stay, checking in periodically to make sure that all was going smoothly for us. I would recommend the house for two couples, or two couples plus one or two children.

Wonderful stay at Tedd's place with my husband and 4 children He was an excellent host. His home is on a beautiful residential block convenient to many restaurants. It was nice to have two separate floors for us to spread out. Internet worked great and the balcony is a lovely place to sit out on.

Charming apartment in Dupont Circle, in a wonderful traditional house, originally designed. Great for families, with two double beds, and a children paradise sleeping room. Fool equiped kitchen, quiet street. Good access to touristic areas. Froendly and helpfull Tedd will help you to find the good spots in Washington.

Tedd is very friendly, and responded immediately to our questions. The location is amazing. I wish we had a five year old with us to fully enjoy the music room, the unique toy collection, the slide and of course the jungle gym that is the kids bedroom!

This house is in a wonderful area, right in the heart of Washington and within walking distance of lots of top spots. We had a fantastic stay and found the house very comfortable and homely. If you have small children, it is perfect! Our teenagers enjoyed playing on the wii and we all loved the balcony and the view of the street through the trees. We found the house delightfully quirky and very unusual for the centre of the city. Tedd was charming and easy to communicate with, and he made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay.

Tedd's place was located perfectly in a great neighborhood- walking to almost anywhere was very doable. Our family of 5, mostly adults, were quite comfortable at the house. Even though Tedd was not in town, he was EXTREMELY accessible and accommodating. We highly recommend staying here for your next DC adventure!
