Two private bedrooms and a study with comfortable single bed (4 beds in total: queen, double, and 2 twins) make up this charming suite with private bath and private entrance in spacious Victorian “painted lady” a few blocks from trendy Main Street, Great Barrington. Walk to pristine lake and quiet country lanes. There is a kitchenette downstairs, and a breakfast room with café table and chairs seating six. Enjoy a quiet retreat in a convenient, beautiful location; walk to great restaurants, too.

The space

The cozy first bedroom has a double bed, dresser and closet space, and is next to the private bathroom. The suite is extremely quiet. The bedrooms and bathroom are on the second floor, attached to a small private hallway. Downstairs is some office space and the kitchenette, which is shared with the office and available for use. Access is via the back staircase, which is a little steep (like many European houses and flats). We are happy to help you with any bags, but if you have trouble with stairs this is not a good pick for your visit to the Berkshires.

Guest access

Coffee and a selection of teas are available in the kitchenette, and there is a full stove/oven, kettle and coffee maker, microwave, and toaster oven. Milk, juice, and breakfast cereals will be supplied for a pleasant continental breakfast. In good weather, there is plentiful outdoor space that you may be able to use - check with us about our plans.

Karen's space and location worked out very well for the five of us. We had everything we needed and it felt like staying at the cabin! It was a bit cramped for our toddler, but with the ton of great kids books and plenty of places to run outdoors it worked out fine. The location is great, in between downtown and Lake Mansfield.

Karen's beautiful old Victorian is a unique opportunity to step back in time. We stayed in summer when days were warm and nights were cool. Through the open windows in the upstairs bedrooms, we awakened to magnificent bird song and it felt a bit like living in a tree house! We were especially grateful for the lovely breakfast foods and good local beer ready for us in the fridge. We didn't have to shop at all for that first breakfast which was a gift because our arrival was delayed by bad car rental experience in NYC. We were attending multiple concerts and Tanglewood and we loved our 20 minute drives through the countryside back and forth from Great Barrington where we also had one of the best meals ever at Prairie Whale. This isn't the place for you, however, if the steep and narrow back stairs are beyond your physical abilities or showering in an old claw foot tub is too rustic for you. Communication was quick and easy and Karen and her daughter Rachel are longtime locals who are happy to help. Location is lovely and near the center of Great Barrington, which is a town with great amenities, but felt less pretentious than other Berkshire destinations. We would definitely stay again.

Karen was very communicative and reasonable during our long weekend stay for Tanglewood/Berkshires exploration. They were always available, generous, and plenty accommodating/flexible with deviations from our original travel plans. The house is in prime location, walking distance to Great Barrington (a great base location for exploring the Berkshires, especially south/central regions). I thought the amenities were lovely/as-described and the hosts also provide great "local" tips for exploring the area! Much thanks to Karen for a lovely weekend.
