Interaction with guests
The co-owner of the property, my brother George runs the vineyard and olive groves and lives on the premises. George is a beloved host and has earned many accolades over the years. He has an apartment below the house, but also uses the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. He might be around and using the farm office which has a separate outside entrance and a door on the side of the kitchen. George takes his cues from the guests and involves himself as necessary. Some want to do their own thing, some want recommendations, travel guidance, restaurant reservations or want to hear the story of the Casale. We are 5th generation owners and have been welcoming guests from all over the world for over 30 years - way before vacation rental companies like Airbnb even existed! We love what we do!
Other things to note
The Casale Sonnino and the surrounding property is a working vineyard and olive groves, so farm and garden work will be happening year around and according to the season. Staff, friends or visitors will be coming and going but they will be outside or come into the office which has a separate entrance and possibly use the kitchen with the owner. No one will ever go upstairs except the housekeeper upon request. Please let us know if want her to clean your suite during your stay and not just at the end after you leave.
There is a friendly dog (Dylan) and cat (Mr. Chips) on the premises. They are outdoor animals but they will approach guests for attention and petting. You might hear the dog barking at night outside.
There is a washer & dryer in the downstairs bathroom. They (especially the dryer) require a lot of energy so we do not let the guests use them. HOWEVER, our housekeeper can run a load and hang dry your clothes and iron as well. This would be an added charge and tip.

- Please do not use the fireplace or the Washer and Dryer. Only the host or the staff may run on your behalf. Tips are appreciated.
- Please be considerate if other guests are staying at the Casale at the same time.
My brother George and I are 5th generation owners and we just can't let go of our rich family history and the wonderful extra virgin olive oil that our mother, a fantastic cook and all around Renaissance woman, passed on to us. We continue to cultivate grapes and wholesale our crop to a local producer of Frascati Superiore wine and I import the entire production of our own extra virgin olive oil to the US.
As we have learned from our many appreciative guests, a unique legacy is meant to be treasured and shared. Though our property is down to 25 acres from the original 200 owned by our great, great uncles, the Casale remains a haven from the frenetic pace of our high-tech lifestyle (though we do have wifi!). We are delighted to welcome guests from all over the world who find the idea of staying in the formal, but bucolic setting of our working farm appealing. At the Casale, it is easy to suspend your everyday routine and reconnect at a place where the talk of history, art, food and wine flows freely.
George manages the vineyard/olive grove operations and hospitality at the Casale Sonnino, near Rome and I manage the marketing, book guests, sell olive oil - here at my home on Long Island, NY, USA. We have been renting for over thirty years and have hosted guests from all over the US and many countries including Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, England, Germany, Madagascar and even Azerbaijan.
My life's motto: When life gives you lemons, make...olive oil!
