Historic Lye Bow, est. in 1860 is just 6ks from Alexandra, located on the lake's edge at Butchers Dam. With mature gardens, heritage orchards and historic landmark sites, the Lake View BnB suite is a serene retreat set in a stunning natural oasis.

Our only neighbour is the Flat Top Hill Conservation Area, locally renowned for walking and mountain biking trails, with easy access to Otago's cycle trails.

The space

The Lye Bow Lake Suite consists of a large master bedroom with an equally large ensuite, walk-in wardrobe, lounge / dining area. Both spaces flow onto a large deck area which is less than 10 metres from the lake's edge.

The dining area includes tea & coffee making facilities, a microwave, fridge and toaster.
(A full kitchen is not available with this property).

The property was initially established in 1860s by Li Bo, a Chinese immigrant who established a market garden in the grounds. His cool store is still standing, along with several of his original apricot trees and large sections of the schist wall he built surrounding the property.

Lye Bow later was used as a commercial nursery and it grounds have become beautifully landscaped and filled with mature trees, shrubs, perennials, seasonal bulbs and plants including thousands of tulips, daffodils and peonies.

Our 8 acres are bounded by DoC's Flat Top Conservation Area and Butchers Dam Lake. Both are excellent recreation areas. Flat Top Conservation Area is perfect for walking and mountain bike riding with multiple tracks suitable for varying levels of fitness.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to wander throughout Lye Bow's gardens and orchards.

The lake can be used for fishing or swimming. Alternatively you may like to enjoy a glass of wine, or a pot of tea on the pontoon.

You can access DoC's Flat Top Hill Conversation Area through the rear of our property where efforts are being made by DoC to re-establish the local native flora and fauna.
There you will also find varied walking and mountain biking tracks, suitable for different fitness levels.

On your travels you will undoubtedly meet Duke, our resident super-friendly cavoodle. He's always keen for a walk with new friends.

Interaction with guests

We live on site so we are available if you have any questions or want to know more about Lye Bow.

Other things to note

As mentioned we have a dog. Duke is super friendly and adores people - particularly children.

Very quiet and peaceful , but close enough to Alexandra for cafes etc. Lovely walks should you want something easy, or something with a little bit more effort, the scenery is well worth the effort.
