Unbeatable location

100% of guests in the past year gave this location a 5-star rating.
Get back to nature and enjoy the peace and quiet of our country getaway in the historic "Little Red School House", just 30 minutes inland from Oamaru. Our B & B is located on our 940 hectare family farm which we run sheep and beef cattle on. The farm is situated over 400m above sea level so has panoramic country views. An early morning or evening walk is amazing for taking in the sunrise or sunset. We are happy to pick up people travelling on the Alps to Ocean Trial. Breakfast included.

The space
Good for a romantic getaway for couples, a country retreat or a solo trip for stress relief. Also a great peaceful spot for writers and artists. The accommodation was once a school in the 1920s so while it has historic notions, it also has a modern kitchen with full facilities, flat screen tv, queen size bed, free WIFI and a washing machine.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the historic school building. The guest house is located on a working sheep and beef farm so we do like guests to keep within the fenced boundaries of the school house unless they are with us or have our express permission to wonder around after we have advised them of any safety hazards. We love to share our piece of paradise with our guests and indulge them in the farming environment with showing them over the farm if arranged prior.

Other things to note
As we are located rurally (30 minutes from the nearest town), it is advisable to bring food with you for cooking. We do have two meal options available with at least 48 hours notice which include a grazing platter for two or a home cooked Lumina lamb meal. We also have some frozen meal options like pizza, lasagna and family pies as well as wine, cheese, crackers, chips chocolate and peanuts available to purchase from the mini bar.

A farm tour/experience is available for $70 per person, children aged 6 - 17 $25 and children aged 5 and under free. The tour takes about an hour and a half and includes a narrated drive over the farm, a working dog demonstration, sheep shearing, visiting the farm pets and a traditional kiwi smoko. A Sky Watcher Telescope for star gazing is also available to hire for $25.

Where you’ll be

Five Forks , Otago, New Zealand

Our area is the pinnacle of true country farm living. If our guests choose, with prior arrangement, they can have a taste of the farming lifestyle as we love to share what we are passionate about as the farm has been in the family for four generations. There is a fantastic water hole close by which is great for swimming in the summertime and our roads/tracks are known for some great bike riding experiences.

Oamaru which is a 30 minute drive for us offers the famous historic precinct, great walkways, an aquatic centre, Clarks Mill (historic flour mill with original machinery), Totara Estate (historic farm), Oamarus Prehistoric World, Steampunk HQ, Blue Penguin Colony, Ten Pin Bowling and our famous Whitestone Cheese Store to name a few.

In the other direction we are only a 30 minute drive from Duntroon which is home to the Vanished World Centre and 45 minutes from Kurow which hosts some great wineries.
