Marianne was a great host, everything was clean and true to the pictures. The apartment is in a great area. Not too far from Lincoln Park, but also far enough to be quiet. It was my first time in Chicago and I couldn't have picked a better place or host to stay with.

It was my first time in Chicago and this home was perfect. I felt safe in the area. It was clean and close to several options for food (groceries/ restaurants), and had ample parking. The home is easy to access from street and more spacious than o expected.

Although somewhat basic in its amenities, this great apartment is a close stay to the University of Chicago and incredible value. Would recommend!

Marianne is very easy to work with. It was helpful to have the option of picking up the keys a few blocks away at a college café key kiosk. The apartment itself is enchanting with a decorative architectural style. It was warm inside since the summer day was hot out and there is no AC. There is a fan. If it wasn't as hot that day the climate inside would be a non issue. It was extra appreciated that she is willing to attempt early check ins or late check outs by being communicative. Of course, it may not always work out but its an added bonus that she tries to be accommodative.

The walk to apartment from key pick up is half a mile, not a few blocks, which is not convenient when carrying all your luggage with you. Host also asked me on the day I was due to check in if I would be willing to leave earlier (than 11am checkout) due to her having another guest needing to check in. We would have been okay with this had she asked the day before-- we were vacationing in Chicago and it's pretty outrageous to ask someone to change plans with less than 24 hours notice. The apartment is difficult to get into but that's not really the host's fault-- just FYI I had two other people to help and a bunch of luggage and it was a struggle to get in. When we did enter the place was hot-- while we knew there was no A.C. the listing also says it stays cool, but that wasn't our experience. There is one fan. Perhaps in the cooler months this wouldn't be an issue but July made it fairly warm. There was open food left on the table and personal items everywhere. This is the only Air BNB I've stayed at that I found in this condition, including having stayed in Chicago using a different host previously. For the price, we didn't think this home was necessarily unreasonable. The neighborhood is very interesting and quiet and we were looking forward to staying there. We weren't expecting much for a one night stay less than $100 in Chicago, except we didn't end up staying the night.

Response from Marianne:
Hi Casie, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. I hope you don't mind if I clear a few things up. There was a misunderstanding about the food on the table. These were dry, non-perishable snacks from Trader Joe's for guests to enjoy. They included chocolate-covered espresso beans and dried seasoned seaweed (something sweet and something salty for every palate!). Perhaps I should have left a note indicating that these were for guests to consume. I have received positive feedback in the past for leaving snacks. I'm sorry about the key pickup. It is about a five- or ten-minute walk. I find it short and pleasant, however I understand that your mileage may vary. I'm sorry about the 11:00am check-out as well. Another guest asked me if she could arrive early, since she had an early flight arriving in the morning and wanted a place to rest. I notified you as soon as her request came. Other guests have complimented me on my flexibility with check-in and check-out. I am always happy to accommodate my guests. I understand that unexpected things come up when you travel, and that it can be hectic and stressful. As regards the personal items, many of them are intended for guests' use. The coffee beaker and beverages in the kitchen, and toiletries in the bathroom are there as a courtesy. As for books, knick-knacks, and decorative items, they are there because this is my private apartment and I prefer it to be furnished to my taste. I have cleared the bedroom closet and other areas for guests' use. Marianne
