Glamping right in town. We call it this space the surf shack club-house. It's a custom build, screened, simple room, that is a step above camping with access to our hot tub, internet, washer-dryer, gardens, kitchen area, and outdoor common space .

The space

Glamping in town in single room with walls that are part wood/part screen. It has a separate entrance and access to lower level of plantation house with access to simple kitchen, tin shower, and bath area.

Guest access

You can access our fenced property, hot tub, shared common spaces, washer and dryer. There are tennis courts and an ocean view park close to the house. We are less than a mile from downtown, UH Hilo, farmer's market. Short bike ride to ocean (we have old funky bikes you are welcome to use).

Other things to note

The room is on the street side of the house and gets the sound of occasional cars passing, along with the birds and scent of Jasmine. You are surrounded by plants.

Had a pleasant stay! I would probably describe it as more of a private room in a hostel than glamping, but no complaints here. The space is under the main house (don't worry, no headroom issues at all) which included a few different places to stay and the common area/kitchen/bathroom. I thought it was well laid out. Did not use the kitchen but in walking past, it seemed to have the necessities for cooking your own meals. The bathroom was shared by all guests but never had a problem accessing it when needed. The entire place was dry, bug free and very clean. My sleeping quarters was a simple set up with a bed, dresser, book shelf and sitting chair. Also had a fan, which came in handy for knocking down the humidity in the room. Very clean and bug free as well. I was a bit surprised considering much of the walls were screen. Despite that, the outdoor noise was at a minimum, with the exception of a few coqui frogs. I did not have much interaction with the host or other guests, just a friendly "aloha" as our paths crossed, but everyone was courteous and respectful of the noise level at night. Overall, great stay and no issues at all.

This is a great place for a glamping experience. Very rustic, good for quick overnight stays. The kitchen is workable for small meals and the bathroom is lovely - large with a nice sized shower. The grounds are beautiful as well. The particular unit I had was two feet from a beautiful flower bush which had a frog or two hanging out in it. The frog noises got loud in the night, so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper!! Kalama is very accommodating and easily accessible.

What was described is what you got. Nice place and they even picked me up (this was after calling five cab services and trying to use lyfe).

The room is basic as described. I slept comfortably. The shared spaces are ample. The dining/lounging area is completely open-air and surrounded by a beautiful, lush garden area. The owner was away, but I was welcomed very nicely by David, her appointed host. I had a great time visiting with him and other guests my first night.
