Chato Relaxo is a private bungalow located in Labadie on the north coast of Haiti. Our little slice of paradise is surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation & flowers and has a beautifully crafted balcony that hangs over the crashing waves giving our guests a 180 degree view of the scenic northwestern Haitian coastline. The daily sunset from your balcony is something not to be missed. Chato Relaxo offers unbeatable access to La Citadelle Laferriere, Cap Haitien, and world-class beaches.

The space

Chato was design and constructed using nature as it's guide. The construction elements are from renewable resources found on the property from which it sits and repurposed from colonial buildings in Cap Haitien.

This beautiful bungalow is one of the few private properties in Labadie that afford you the breathtaking views of Haiti's northwestern coastline. Chato Relaxo is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day's journey to La Citadel or an ideal spot to kick-back with an ice cold Prestige after your day exploring the nearby beaches.

Guest access

Guests will have access to private balcony, dock and swimming area, parking, electricity, running water, ceiling fans, and fire pit. Additionally, guests are free to use kayaks located at our dock.

Interaction with guests

Guests will be greeted by staff upon arrival. Our staff will prepare and serve breakfast as well as clean accommodations per guest preference. Our staff is available to help with bags and will also help launch kayaks off the dock.

Other things to note

A continental breakfast of fresh squeezed juice, coffee, peanut butter, bread and fruit is included with your stay.

If you are looking for transportation or excursions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I can help help arrange airport transfer, taxis to restaurants, or boat trips to local beaches.

Please note, Chato Relaxo does not have Internet or Television. We are truly an escape from it all! There is no hot water in Chato Relaxo as we use collected rain water for our showers, sinks, and toilets.

Dinner can be prepared and delivered at an additional cost per plate ($30). Please contact us after booking to arrange dinner. We will collect cash for prepared meals.

Dillon's place was incredible. I've lived and traveled around Haiti for the past 2 years and this place in Labadie / OKAP was exceptional. Beautiful location, and Dillon is so helpful if you have any questions or needs!

The Chato Relaxo is amazing and lives up to everything posted in the description and more. Firstly, Dillion's attentiveness and communication with us was impeccable. He connected us with all the correct local people prior to our arrival, arrange airport pickup etc and went the extra mile to ensure we had a great time. The Chato is like a little private getaway, nestled in the forest trees right on the ocean and only really accessible by water taxi, which was wonderful and the water taxi's are quite easy to come by (we actually had a connection via Dillion with one of the locals). Astride and Desi (Haitian support staff on the property) were wonderfully helpful and very kind. Anything we needed, we had. Astride spoke a little Spanish which was also helpful to communicate. The bed and amenities were also very comfortable and clean. The beaches within walking distance of the Chato are beautiful and clean. We spent the first two days lounging and enjoy the calm daytime. The food on the local beaches was the best food we ate on the whole trip. Then in the first two evenings, cooked up our own meals as the thunderstorms rolled in like clockwork in the evenings (traveled at the end of rainy season). Sitting on the porch, looking over the ocean and watching the lighting show was amazing and really peaceful. On the days where we got adventurous, we went for a hike up Bwa Loko which is the mountain behind the village of Labadie which was beautiful and had great views of the whole bay. A hike only for the adventurous, yet well worth it if you're up for it. (ask Dillion to arrange a local guide). One other day we went to the Citadel which was a really fun experience, at the gate you will be asked if you want to a guide for $35USD which you don't need (we didn't), as some local kids walked up with us and shared the insights and we tipped them a few bucks. You also don't need a horse ride up, if you're fairly fit, you can walk to the top in about 25 mins. Final tip: Go to Paradise Cove for a swim, it is amazing. Overall we had an amazing time and would stay with Dillon again for sure and I can see us going back to Haiti multiple times in the future after the experience we had. Thanks Dillon for all of your help and for the experience we had. Samuel & Haley

Chato Relaxo is what everyone needs! You can’t beat this location. Dillion describes this bungalow perfectly. My girlfriend and I spent 2 nights there and we were so relaxed by the time we left. We loved sitting on the large front porch listening to the oceans. The breakfast they served was perfect, and the fresh juice was delicious. We took a 30 min water taxi ride to Ille à Rat Island. The beach was beautiful, private and we ate delicious freshly caught fish and lobster. We also visited the Citadelle and took in some history and beautiful views. Everyone we encountered in Labadee was very nice and helpful. Dillion was a great host and always responded quickly. The only thing he left out of his description is, you will not want to leave! Thanks and we can’t wait to return!

I am originally from Cap-Haitien and wanted to show my fiancé the beauty and dignity of Haiti. We spent a few days here after staying with my family just to enjoy the turquoise waters off the coast. The staff on hand was friendly and helpful and the place was exactly what I wanted-lush, quiet, and naturally beautiful. We walked to Belly Beach to enjoy local food (and use their wifi) while swimming at the beach and then fell asleep each night to the sounds of waves crashing. Dillon was also very responsive as I tried to plan the logistics for the trip, making it a smooth transition. Hope to be back soon!

I had a friend in town and wanted to show him the beauty of Haiti. I couldn't have chosen a better spot. You wake up looking out onto the ocean with the sounds of nature all around (don't worry, there's a mosquito net ). I'd never been to Cap but Dillon was super responsive with any questions I had. I'm ok communicating in Haitian Creole, but Dillon was also great about reaching out to Astride or Desi if I needed anything. It really does feel like your own private paradise secreted away in the jungle. I have recommended it already to friends and will definitely be coming back. If you're wondering what to bring to make it more comfortable, we found the mosquito coils to be helpful when sitting outside on the porch sipping a glass of wine. The restaurant that is walking distance from the house only had fish left (we went a bit later in the evening). Fortunately, it was delicious! My friend had it grilled and I had it in sauce with a side of banann peze. All in all, a wonderful break from the city!

Hope to go back again soon! I won't waste your time and write about how lovely this place is because you can read others reviews, it's all true. I'd rather take the time to give you some tips: 1/ use the canoe, it's part of your package 2/ make a grocery stop before arriving to stock the fridge 3/ read the visitors book as soon as you arrive because there are some good tips by other travelers 4/ pack food and spend the day on rat island. You need a minimum of 3 nights to really enjoy. We did the Citadelle on another day. 5/ Be prepared to tip various people who will help you along the way from water taxi guys to other guides around. 6/ Don't hesitate to bombard Dillon with questions he's very helpful and pretty much helped me plan my whole trip. 7/ No worries, the driver will pick you up on time (mine was Eugene). 8/ We took a bus from PAP called the Sans Souci. It was clean, AC but you can't eat on the bus and the bathroom stops don't always have TP, so travel with some of you plan to take the bus to Dillon's. 9/ The water taxis really do know his place :) So, if you want a nice view, clear water, lots of nature safety and quiet, don't hesitate to book!

My wife, Lisa, and I love to travel all over the world - experiencing new cultures, sightseeing, and trying new foods are some of our favorite things. Our favorite trip to date was the 2 weeks we spent in Granada, Madrid, San Sebastian, and Barcelona, Spain! We have stayed in and used airbnb in Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, USA and the UAE.

I was born and raised in the States and I have traveled extensively throughout Haiti my entire life. These listings are for properties owned and operated by my family who have been traveling and living in Haiti for over 40 years. Our goal is to show guests the beauty of the north of Haiti that we as a family have come to love and call home! Please let me know if you have any questions about our little slice of the paradise!
