This is a great place. Well located and Subadha was very friendly and helpful. We cooked our own food there as a supermarket is very near. Room was nice and cool to sleep in as the ceiling fan was very good. Happy to recommend :) Thank you

Mr. Subodha is, just like the other reviews say, very nice and friendly. His English is tolerable and he gave us the option to use the laundry machine in his parents house (first neighbors). He was also very flexible about our check out time. The house itself is situated atop small hill in Peradeniya, near a bake house, some pharmacies and some other shops, with the botanic gardens within walking distance, so it's not an extremely bad position. Also, the room has hot water. However, this is where the positives stop. The room itself was dirty and there was a bad smell coming from the bathroom which looks terrible. Toilet seat cover needs replacement and there's no shower curtain (even though there's a holder for it). The bad smell was coming into the room through the bathroom door which looks as if they have been half eaten through by termites. When we arrived, the welcoming party was prepared for us by some 50 mosquitoes (not an exaggeration!) and lots of ants. There's a mosquito net though, but you can't spend every waking moment under it. It took us more than half an hour to kill most of them. Even though the house is set about 50m from the road, the noise from the traffic is pretty bad. Even with closed windows, due to the ventilation aperture (which has a net) above the window. Earplugs were a must. Wireless barely worked, in sporadic short bursts, to our great annoyance. The signal was just too weak. There's only one power outlet in the room and no splitter/adapter. The shared kitchen is filthy and the refrigerator was full to a brim, so we couldn't really use it. One of the bigger disappointments was that there was no breakfast included in the price, even though it is listed! So, when we confronted Mr. Subodha about it, he claimed that breakfast is available but for a price of 500 rupees. Overall, it was a pretty bad experience and we cannot recommend staying there until these problems are taken care of.

all the shot comings have been fixed, come again we love to have you with us. I have not mention in the airbnb site that Breakfast is included in the room rate, I think nobody will give a double room for that low rate with free breakfast in Peradeniya.

We only stayed a few hours as we wet leaving for the airport at 2am. Subodha was so kind and friendly, he organised a tuktuk to collect us from the train station and arranged the taxi transfer to the airport. The room was large and the bathroom had warm water.

I stayed at "Home Away From Home" for 6 weeks, as an elective student at Peradeniya University. I booked a room for the first week and after adapting to the place, I decided to extend my stay for the next 5 weeks. The house was really close to the University/Hospital and really easy to reach by bus/train (in the last case you might need to use a tuk tuk, but you can always ask Subodha to help you) . Also very close to Peradeniya Botanical Gardens (a must see in my opinion) and close enough to Kandy by bus. It is close to the bus stop and main road but far enough to allow you to have a quiet and peaceful staying. I had everything I needed to feel comfortable. All the staff was really friendly and helpful even having some trouble speaking English. Everytime I needed something, Subodha was available to help me. He really helped me feeling like it was "my place" and I really feel I made a friend. The Sri Lanka typical breakfast was great and everytime "on time". The room is big and comfortable, as it is the living room. I used the kitchen a lot of times and even if it is not fully equiped I cooked my dinner every night. I can not thank enough Subodha and I would definitly stay there again if I come back to Kandy/Peradeniya. "Home Away From Home" is the best option for students searching for comfortable fair priced acommodation or for tourists who just want to stay for a few days and enjoy beautiful Peradeniya and Kandy.
