Our neighborhood is both historic and colorful, boasting some of the richest culture in the capital, and full of bars, restaurants, and music venues. The birthplace of celebrated jazz musician Duke Ellington, today, this section of the city is as vibrant as ever.

You’ll find jazz clubs, nationally and internationally acclaimed bands and DJs playing in many of the music venues like the 9:30 Club, Black Cat, U Street Underground, and the Howard and Lincoln Theaters.

Food is eclectic and exciting, ranging from the best cheap eats to 5 star dining. From the world-famous Ben’s Chili Bowl and its signature half-smoke sausage, the area is a cornucopia of eats to be excited about; oyster bars, biergartens, and Southern American soul food, coffee shops, tapas, sports bars, and the homey eateries of “Little Ethiopia”, endless sit-down, take-out or delivery dining options abound.

Surrounded by Wholefoods, Trader Joe’s, Glen’s Garden Organic Market, Yes! Organic as well as a weekend farmer’s market, you are never far from grocery stores and pharmacies, and 24 hour convenience stores.

Parks, gardens, monuments, and walking tours are plentiful. The gated Westminster Park at the corner includes a splash park for small children, while a skateboard and dog park, basketball and tennis courts are just steps away.

A diversity of funky boutique shops abound, for clothing, decor and records will place everything within reach. The best way to take it all in is just taking a stroll, day or night to enjoy the culture and the people-watching.
