Ski, whitewater, cycle, hike . . . casinos too! Gateway to the Sierra, Tahoe, Hope Valley and Carson Pass. Easy drive to Bridgeport, Bodie, Tioga Pass and Yosemite, and Mammoth.

The space

This is the master bedroom (11x17 with double closet, private bathroom has good sized walk-in shower), with a comfy queen sized bed. Window on the garden, clean, quiet, and cozy.

Guest access

Kitchen available for light meal/snack preps, and, of course, you will leave it like you found it. There's room in the fridge and cupboards for your groceries. No microwave . . . cookware is primarily cast iron, and Visionware, so please ask for instructions if you're unfamiliar with these. I also have a couple of Teflon coated pieces that are less fussy. Washer/dryer for considerate use (they are old, do not overload) at $2.00/load. Bicycle and bike trailer, kayak available as well with additional security deposit.

Interaction with guests

I am happy to visit about all kinds of things and offer recommendations for things to do/see in the area. I am a Greta Garbo fan and also completely understand when a person needs space.

Other things to note

2 sweet Dachshunds live here. It's basic politeness to greet them, but please, don't let them take advantage of you. They cannot hold their licker!! I may be able to accommodate your pet(s) under the right conditions.

No smoking!! Take your shoes off and free your feet (and leave "invaders" at the door!). Clean house socks provided!

Say hello to the dogs (but don't let them take advantage). If you bring your dog, please bring vaccination records and be sure they are wearing their tags during their stay. I prefer that pets are not left at the house when you go out. If, for some reason, you cannot take them with you, they must be crated, and for no more than 4 hours. Most pet sitters in this area charge $25/day per pet. If I am available, I can exercise, feed and water your pet for $20/day. Quiet time from 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. No partying (there are plenty of casinos and pubs for that!) Leave no trace, i.e., pick/clean up after yourself and leave things as you found them. Thank you.

My boyfriend and I decided to stay at Marilyn's place for our 4th of July trip to Lake Tahoe. (Gardnerville is about a 30-minute drive from South Lake Tahoe and an hour drive from North Lake Tahoe.) We found that, especially compared to the lodging prices in Lake Tahoe, this was definitely a bang for our buck. There is a private bathroom connected to your bedroom, there can be morning coffee readily made for you when you get up, and there are two adorable and well-behaved wiener dogs Phoebe and Charlie. Your bedroom will come fully stocked with towels and blankets. The bathroom will already have toilet paper and shampoo/conditioner as well. When we arrived, everything was clean and neatly folded. Marilyn also let us use her kitchen and any of her utilities whenever we wanted. And after a long day out hiking or paddle boarding, coming back to these amenities made for a great and relaxing vacation. I would say the only downsides are that it might get hot during the day (though we were always out by the lake during those times) and there isn't necessarily that much to do in Gardnerville itself. Despite these, I would highly recommend this Airbnb to anyone who is willing to drive those few extra miles to Lake Tahoe or other nearby attractions. Marilyn has the wonderful ability to make everyone feel at home in her home.

This house has fantastic views from the living room, and a few from your room. The attached bathroom is a huge plus for the room and the house is friendly, clean and this set up beats a hotel room any day of the week!

Very nice room with private bath. Quiet and relaxing. Marilyn's home was far better than a hotel.

Marilyn's home was far more comfortable than staying at a hotel, like staying with a friend or family member rather than business travel. Very quiet and a private bath. Would highly recommend Marilyn's room!

Staying with Marilyn was a treat! She accommodated me on a late arrival while traveling for business. Her home was cozy and Marilyn was very hospitable meanwhile respectful of my privacy. I enjoyed getting to know her and I would definitely stay with her again! I highly recommend to consider Marilyn if you plan a visit near Gardnerville :)

Hi! I am an adventurous, intellectually curious and active semi-retiree and grandmom. Done with the administrative careers and delighted to be a massage therapist. (I love the work itself and the flexibility of time and location.)

Squeamish about dirt, especially can't stand dirty feet - even slightly! I enjoy new cultures and environments. I think I do better than most StarTrek landing parties when it comes to "leave no trace" impacts.

I enjoy outdoor walking (almost as much as my 2 dachshunds do), dancing, and singing. (All kinds of music.) Quieter pursuits include crochet, reading and movies. (The Once and Future King, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Tolkien.) Conversations of a philosophical nature engage me, but I don't take myself too seriously. I definitely like to laugh and have fun. I most closely resemble the INFP Meyers Briggs personality type, but at this age, I've learned to balance extremes.

About the doxies, Charlie & Phoebe: they are very sweet natured, and pretty well behaved (others have said they are well behaved, but they don't know them like I do! Ha ha.), not nearly as spoiled as they would like to be. Actually, I am a very responsible and considerate pet owner, and people who have dogs of their own appreciate these funny little loves.
