This is an insulated and finished private hut with bunk beds. There is a single mattress on the bottom bunk and a twin sized 4" foamy mattress on the upper bunk. Each of the 2 beds has a single clean sheet only. There is enough space on the floor to add an extra air mattress for a third guest if necessary. Bedding is available for an extra $15/bed. Let us know if you need bedding when you book.

The space
It is beautiful land with nice big trees and very few mosquitoes. Its an off-highway, semi-dead-end, so its usually quite quiet except for squirrels. Wild turkeys and deer often wander through the property. There is a dog in a separate fenced area. The level gravel road access is approximately 1 km from the paved road. There is no cell phone coverage here.

Guest access
The community building and associated kitchen amenities will be closed. Water is available from a hydrant outside the community building. Guests may use either the flush toilet or a compost toilet. A compost toilet may be allocated for your exclusive use if available.
Reasonable use of the outdoor shower and toilet are okay as long as they are left clean (see rules). The outdoor shower and toilets will be cleaned daily.

Other things to note
Covid-19 safety measures:
The Guesthouse and Community Building are closed.
Huts will be cleaned and left empty for 2 days before check in.
When possible, an individual toilet will be reserved for the exclusive use of each group of guests.
Toilets that are not used exclusively by one group and surfaces in the outdoor shower will be washed daily.
Guests are expected to respect the community building and guesthouse closures and to follow the physical distancing requirements of 2m from other guests.
Guests should bring their own hand sanitizer and are asked to practice appropriate hygiene. If you are sick, please visit another time.
Guests also need to take personal responsibility for their own safety, refraining from touching surfaces unnecessarily and washing hands or using hand sanitizer frequently.

There is no cell phone coverage here until you get to Crescent Valley (south) or Silverton (north). There are many guides available for activities in the area including water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, hot springs, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours, native history and lots more. There is a particularly valued native storyteller here that can also provide a walking tour to a nearby village site with a full scale replica of an aboriginal kekuli (earth house). Please call ahead for recommendations on booking guides or storytellers. You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy.

Location

Slocan Park, British Columbia, Canada

This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor and hippy - draft dodger. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Hippy Hole.

I believe that friends, time and freedom are the keys to happiness. Inviting my friends to live with me inspires me. I am developing a campground with gardens and gathering places for workshops and concerts. It is my intention to share this land with others while preserving its beauty, as best I can. I love to go dancing in Nelson, play music, bike riding, dog walking, and relaxing in a hammock or by the fire. Being outside in the Kootenays is therapy for me. I love to float on the river, swim, hike, grow stuff, stargaze and sleep. I am into deep relaxation, biosphere preservation, healing and conflict resolution. I enjoy kids, trading skills, building things, massage, drumming and potluck parties. I just want to celebrate this rare earth.
