Beautiful 1920's Spanish bungalow - peaceful 2 bedroom home in the heart of Venice off Rose Ave. Organic fruit trees in garden, gourmet
kitchen, 2 full bathrooms and open living room w fireplace. Walk to beach, restaurants, shops and Abbot Kinney Blvd.

The space

The Sanctuary is a classic Venice (built in 1920's) Spanish bungalow with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There's a light-filled, beautiful kitchen w granite countertops and a 1940's Wedgwood stove with double ovens. A small dining area with antique oak table and chairs extends off the kitchen and is the perfect spot for morning coffee unless you'd rather sit in the front garden!
There's a real, wood burning fireplace in the living room and a stack of firewood for your use in the front garden.
There's no TV but a pulldown screen in the living room if you'd like to project a film. There is: FIOS internet, lots of good books, room to practice yoga and an electric piano to play! The front garden has lounge chairs and a portable raised fire pit to gather round on a summer night. The back deck has a table and chairs for afternoon sunning and an outside bathtub for all to enjoy. The back deck is a shared space with Airbnb guests and me if I'm in town.

Beds: There's a queen sized bed in each bedroom, a full size convertible futon bed/couch in the living room and a single couch/futon there as well.

Guest access

Guests have full and private use of the home. The back deck area is a shared space with whomever is in the the house and me if I'm in town. Renters and their guests enter the house through the front gate into the garden and then up the front stairs. If I am in town, I (and anyone who comes to see me) enters through the front gate and then takes the side path next to the house to the back studio. There is an outside tub on the back deck which is a shared feature with renters and me. I love taking baths there and will do that when the coast is clear. I'm always quiet when I use the back deck area.

Interaction with guests

I am available for whatever help is needed. I have a studio apartment in the back and if I am in town I will be staying there. If I am traveling I am always reachable by cell and available for any assistance that might be needed by my guests. You might see me on the back deck, walking along the side of the house or watering the garden as needed.

Other things to note

Mail is delivered through a mail slot in the front door of the house. I leave a basket by the door and renters just put the mail in the basket. I will arrange to pick it up or have my bookkeeper do that every few days. Also, I have a gardener, Daniel, who comes once a week and wonderful house cleaners, Maria and Pepe, who are available if you want to schedule extra cleaning while you are here.

Denise was an amazing host. On hand to meet us when we arrived and show us around and help us with parking ideas. The house was roomy enough for the 6 of us to feel very comfortable and at home. The kitchen was large and well stocked, and Denise had even said we could help ourselves to the vegetables, fruit and herbs from the garden. Three bikes were provided which was a bonus. Great location for groceries, eating out and the beach. We loved the location of Wholefoods grocery just around the corner. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend to other travellers wanting to stay in Venice. Thanks again Denise for everything.

Response from Denise:
Sonya, thank YOU for being such wonderful guests! I hope the rest of your trip is fantastic and that you return here to The Sanctuary one day. As long as you live in that "blue zone" energy - you'll have many years ahead in which to return to Venice! All the best, d

Denise is fantastic and her place in Venice is absolutely perfect. We arrived early and it was no problem for Pablo and Maria (the cleaners) and when we got to meet Denise she gave us the best tips on where to eat and what to see. She's one of those people who can ride the line perfectly between saying hi and sharing stories and leaving you to soak up some alone time. I'd actually go back just to hear a few more stories! Also she plays a mean harmonica and grows the most delicious figs.

Response from Denise:
Tom - next time you come I'll get out my bass and we'll have a longer jam, ok? It's no wonder you are the great guy you are given your amazing mum!! By the way, I looked up Marian Bantjes - amazing!! Have a great time at TypeCon.

Denise's home is spotless, perfectly located, fully stocked with anything you might need, and amazingly comfortable and welcoming. I can't recommend a stay at The Sanctuary enough. My husband and two children and I felt immediately at home: we used the bikes to ride along the beach, the open air tub in the back, the lovely kitchen with views of lush backyard flowers, and the fire pit to while away the evening. Thank you, Denise for opening up your warm and loved home to us!

Very nice, cosy and comfortable house of 1920ies - perfectly designed with a very good taste, convenient for a family of 4-6. Close to "food supplies", to the beach, to the shopping aria. Located in the pretty living aria. The house has small but nice and relaxing garden. Denise was very helpful and supportive. We are very happy with the choice we made. Whenever we come back we will choose this wounderful house!

Hi Friends! I'm Denise and I am a yoga teacher and musician. I live mostly here in LA and sometimes in Kauai, Hawaii. I teach Yin Yoga (slow deep stretching) at Santa Monica Yoga. I also play and record with various artists here in LA and with Ace of Cups, my band in San Francisco. The house here doesn't have a TV but does have an electric piano, lots of great books, a fireplace and clean open space to practice yoga.
I was in the first all female band in San Francisco in the 1960's, the Ace of Cups. The posters which adorn the walls of my house are from shows we played with The Band, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and many others. Most folks really enjoy looking at them!
