The Buddha Bungalow @ Birdsong Retreat is a self-contained unit out of sight of the main house with a separate driveway entrance. Nestled in the bush by the stream, this finished rustic dwelling with stunning views is the perfect place to retreat from the busyness of urban life.
Here you will be immersed in nature, surrounded by birdcalls, and begin to re-connect to the earth and beauty that is all around us. It’s perfect for a solo retreat or a couple’s quiet getaway.

Everyone welcome.

The space
This is a quintessential Kiwi bach (cottage) experience. You are in the bush and with that comes all things nature – trees and flowers and possums, bugs, and other creatures with which you will be sharing outdoor space.

The shower and toilet are in a room adjoining bedroom. The kitchen is covered on three sides with outside access. Mobile coverage depends on carrier (Vodafone best, Spark OK, 2 degrees not at all).

We are currently building a geodesic dome on a platform which is our healing space, and this is visible from the front window, to the side. See photos.

We do not offer wifi. Hot spotting with your mobile phone is the best way to get internet access if you require it.

Please NOTE: If the dates you seek are blocked, please write us as we can sometimes modify the schedule and make it available. Blessings. We are Birdsong Retreat & Sanctuary.

Kathy and Bruce are two "retired" Americans in their 50's having a go at living in rural New Zealand. We've lived in NZ for 10+ years and are citizens here, but you wouldn't guess that from our accents.

We are pretty good at connecting and communicating with a wide variety of people, and really do our best to bridge the gap, however we are experiencing it.

Food is very important to us and has been a big part in nudging us to our current situation-- we value low chemical high vitality delicious eating.

We are a couple of introverts so our space and quiet time is really important to us. That said we value connection with like minded people.

We are interested in personal growth through whatever vehicles present themselves, be it relationship with the land, shamanism, Buddhism, breathwork, sacred geometry, burning man type festivals, meditation, ritual, prayer, yoga, chi gung, or whatever we come across.

As well as AirBNBers we host visiting friends WWOOFers, HelpXers and similar folk. Even though AirBNB is all about monetary exchange we are super interested in other ways for energy to flow.
