Other things to note

Activities at Akrimios
Margarita offers accompanied journeys to sacred and meditative places on Crete, as well as transformative healing sessions and massage. These are ideally booked two or more days in advance. You are also invited to attend the seminars and workshops that frequently happen in the same building.

Below the apartments is our restaurant where you can eat outside and enjoy the spectacular views over Souda Bay. We serve mainly local produce and biological food from our own farm. Some weekends there might be a baptism or wedding, and you can enjoy Greek food and Greek music, and might even try your feet out at Greek dancing!

Below our property is a tiny church set above its own pebbly beach and crystal clear water. A path leads all the way down. Make sure you wear sensible shoes for the ten to fifteen minute descent!

Ingrid is an amazing host. You seldom meet such an open-hearted and gracious host. We were invited to an unique cretan baby shower family dinner that was hosted by Ingrid and took place in her restaurant. The food and their homemade wine was extraordinary. The party one of a kind. The apartment is clean, spacious and nice. It’s well equipped and misses nothing. The view is nice and the balcony / terrace is huge. The apartment is part of a family run hotel, so there is house keeping every couple days. The only downside is the rather noisy street behind the hotel. It is the main road between Heraklion and Chania and therefore always busy. We acclimated after two days, but it is a downside compared to other places.

Margarita's place has a wonderful view, which we enjoyed tremendously! It was very clean and we enjoyed the pears she left us. The experience was a good one although there are a few issues that should be improved: the shower does not have any separating wall with the rest of the bathroom (only a shower curtain) so the water often goes on the rest of the floor; the air conditioner is quite noisy.

The room was just as described, very simple. The terrasse has an amazing view of the area. Beds are very comfortable. It is situated on the main road but you don't hear the traffic, so it is very quiet. Very nice host, and the restaurant downstairs is open from 6-1, and has great local food at a cheap price. There is no washing machine but You can ask the staff to wash your clothes, which is perfect! Communications is not top yet, still need some improvement.

Margarita and Chrissi were perfect hosts. They helped us arrange transportation, gave us vital information that helped us navigate the area on foot (!), and were quick to respond to any need. They even allowed us a late checkout because of our schedule. The photographs do *not* do justice to the terrace - it's even more beautiful in person! We could have lived on that terrace, and we spent many hours at all times of day watching the water, the boats passing by, and the swallows flying through the air. It never became old or boring. It is truly an astounding location. The room was clean and well-equipped, and the pool was absolute heaven, clean and cool and often unused at the right time of day for us. We found the Akrimios grounds very quiet and restful; we slept wonderfully. The short walk up to the village of Aptera was very pleasant and easy; at the top is a fantastic mini-market, as well as great restaurants - we really had everything we needed, even for a stay of one week. In short, it was a really amazing and perfect stay. We hope to come back many times!

We we're really, really happy with our stay at Akrimios. The place is more like a small hotel but with only a very limited number of apartments. So the feeling is quite intimate and far from touristy. At our arrival we were a bit underwhelmed because the place seems a bit run down. However, all of the staff were so lovely that we felt at home right away. We especially liked the restaurant which belongs to the place. The food is incredibly good and the prices are so low you wouldn't believe it. Any issue we had were resolved in no time. The view from the large terrace is breathtaking even after staying there for almost 3 weeks. The only negative thing in our opinion is the rather ill equipped kitchen (however the restaurant is so good you wouldn't want to cook for yourself anyway). Be aware that there is no washing machine in the apartment but the staff of Akrimios will do your laundry for you if you ask them (no not at usual hotel rates either, we just gave them a little tip and that was it). You should also be aware that a car is basically a must-have to explore the surroundings because bus services are super limited! If you want to rely public transport you should head to a more touristy place. We were sad to leave everyone behind after our stay and the gifts they gave us on our way were a super sweet reminder of the good and relaxing time we had!

In 1979, I left my home in Austria in search of life’s deeper meaning. My search led me to Crete, where my free spirit took root, finding solid ground with my Cretan husband and four children. In addition to our organic farm, the family owns and runs Akrimios. Akrimios-Orizon is …
