This is indeed the 'place of the Kereru'. Enjoy the fabulous vista from your private sunny deck watching the swooping Kereru birds. Be lulled to sleep by the gurgling stream nearby.

The space
Our guest suite has two rooms within the house. It has a fabulous private big deck looking out over the valley surrounded in a verdant garden. Newly renovated, the decor is an eclectic mix of the hosts artwork, old marine charts and artefacts picked up on their travels. It's quite the holiday atmosphere.
While there isn't actually a kitchen, in the kitchenette you could still prepare simple food and use the BBQ. There is a fridge, a jug and a toaster.
We have a coffee machine, coffee and a selection of teas.

Where you’ll be

Wainui, Canterbury, New Zealand

Wainui is a sleepy little coastal village with a wide sweeping bay looking out to the dramatic heads of the Akaroa Harbour. The beach has safe swimming, easy access to the water and excellent boating. The valley behind the bay is mostly farmland with pockets of regenerating bush jammed with birds that start the day with a cacophony of birdsong. The closest shop is in Duvauchelle for basic goods, although over the Xmas break there is a shop at the YMCA next door. Cheese and wines are available in the Barry's Bay Cheese Factory and frenchy Akaroa has a supermarket, bottle store, fish & chips, butcher, lots of restaurants, cafe's and boutique arty shops. The closest pub is at Duvauchelle which also has excellent meals as well.

My husband Phill and I have recently moved to Wainui. He's setting up an organic produce farm and I'm an artist focusing on the marine environment as my muse. I still have to build my studio. It's too confining to work in the house. Actually, I'm too messy. I love to travel. I still like to backpack like I did in my youth but I have to say that things are a lot more comfortable than they used to be. My favourite travel destinations are always islands. I'm interested in indigenous culture. I like pacific fusion food and the occasional roast chicken. I like catching and growing my own food. That's why we moved to Wainui.
