About this listing

12 m² - built more than 150 years ago as a storeroom; then our children's music den, now a quaint guest room in the garden. Small in size, but big on style. En suite with shower. Double bed, but reserved for single occupancy only It has a coffee/tea making station and bar fridge.Laptop safe. Flat screen TV. Decoder.Free WIFI. Parking behind security gate.

The space

This small freestanding room, built more than 150 years ago as a storeroom; today used as a quaint guest room in the garden. It is not officially on the books of my guest house - we use it for friends and family, although I do have a few guests who prefer it because of the garden setting (it looks onto the swimming pool and fruit trees.) En suite with shower and heated towel rail. Double bed. There is a coffee/tea making facility and a small bar fridge. Laptop safe. (No space for lots of luggage + therefore maybe not that suitable for long stays) Free WIFI in room.

Guest access

Because our private entrance in Smith Street is closer to our little garden room, I give guests a remote to that gate and they park in front of Desmond's boat next to the garage.

Interaction with guests

We enjoy interacting with our guests. Fairview Homestead is a 5 bedroom guest house in B&B style - that means we, the owners, live on the premises. We are led by our guest re. interaction -some guests request dinner at the family table ; others require a more private experience.

The only rules I can think of are : no smoking inside ; no non-paying guests in the bedrooms longer than 10 minutes; no cigarette buds in the garden, no unsupervised children in the swimming pool, clean the kitchen, be nice to the hosts...
That was said 'tongue in cheek' ! We have had paying guests in our house for more than 20 years and I've never had to pin down rules, so I do not think I am going to start now.

The B&B epitomises the unique SouthAfrica farmstead experience, within the urban-environment of a vibrant tourist & historic Town of George. I was absolutely consumed by the wonderful ambiance, complimented by Phil's unique hospitality & the service-excellence not common, but so welcome in this picturesque part of South Africa

What a find! I stayed here for five nights and it was a perfect base from which I set off every day. This garden room, positioned a little away from the main house and with the option of gated parking close by, is a private haven for single travellers. It is tastefully and comfortably fitted with everything a businessperson or traveller would require including fast internet and a handy notebook safe. Philda and her staff were immensely helpful and hospitable. The full English breakfast, included in the rate, was gourmet with a choice of hot options each day.

Fairview homestead is not just a place worth staying at in George, it's almost worth stopping in George to stay at. Imposing old mansion and fairytale gardens make this a tranquil stop for any holiday. Long late breakfasts with views of the garden and informed and welcoming hosts. Do yourself a favour ......

We bought Fairview in 1994 -the restoration and upkeep has been an ongoing labour of love. Desmond and I love traveling and hiking – apart from the numerous South African hiking trails, we have walked the Camino to Santiago across Portugal,Spain and France. It does not matter where our annual holidays are – there will always be at least one hike fitted in and one garden on the ‘must see’ list.
