THE ARTISTS STUDIO - The perfect place to relax, unwind or explore.

A beautifully refurbished caravan, nestled at the bottom of the garden by a bubbling stream. Two minutes walk to the beach, on the spectacular Thames Coast. Only 15-20 minutes drive north from Thames township. Room for the boat and a boat ramp is at the bottom of the road.

The space
Designed to allow guests to feel connected with the outdoors, there are several lounging spots to sit and watch the Tui feasting on Pohutukawa flowers, enjoy a good book, or a glass of wine. You may choose to dine out in one of Thames excellent eateries, or alternatively you may wish to cook dinner in the caravan, a two element cooktop is provided as is a small fridge, jug and toaster. The caravan does not have running water, guests share the main house bathroom and dishes are done in the outside carport area in the laundry. Bottled water is provided.

Deb is an exceptional host, always available if you need information or for a friendly chat, and if you desire peace, tranquility, and time to chill out with no interruptions, your privacy is assured.

In the area there are many beautiful forest walks, ranging from a gentle amble to hard core hiking for the adventure seeker. River swimming and fishing is also available nearby. Just 3 kilometers away is the Waiomu Café, a great place for breakfast, lunch or an extremely good coffee!

From Ruamahunga, you can drive up the Pohutukawa Coast on the Coromandel Peninsula, with stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf to Historic Coromandel Township. From Coromandel it's an easy drive to the world famous Cathedral Cove, and Hot Water Beach, and many other beautiful and secluded beaches.

A selection of teas, fresh coffee, milk and a continental breakfast is included in your booking. Breakfast is made up of home made meusli, fresh fruit, breadm butter and a selection of jams/spreads. If you come at the right time home made plum jam and lime marmalade is available :)

Guest access
The caravan is located at the bottom of the garden, not far from the house. It has a large deck with seating, and is very peaceful. The sound of the stream and the birds is about all you hear. You can park your vehicle near the caravan, on the grass right beside the deck if it is not raining, or about 10 meters away in the driveway if its raining. The bathroom is shared with myself, but guests enter the bathroom via the carport and my art studio, and do not need to come into the main part of the house. There is a small step up from the grass to the caravan deck, and 3 steps up into the studio space which leads to the bathroom in the main house.

Other things to note
I have 2 cats, who are fairly elderly and keep a low profile and one young gorgeous dog named Shadow. He is not allowed to interact with guests and so will not bother you on your stay, but if you want to say hi to him he's very friendly :) If you are allergic to cats you may consider that this is perhaps not the best place for you to stay. I don't allow the cats into the caravan, but for people who are extremely sensitive to cat fur their presence is occasionally felt.

I'm a practicing artist and workshop facilitator, if you are interestd in having a creativity workshop while you are staying it may be arranged if the timing works for both parties.

Ruamahunga is a small community of houses tucked away just off the main Thames Coast Road. The caravan is at the bottom of the garden about 8 meters from the house, there are lots of beautiful native trees around, and also a lovely stream about 10 meters from the caravan. You can walk about 1 - 2 minutes and be at the beach at the bottom of the road. Its a great little swimming beach, and chances are you will be the only people on the beach.

An easy-going, well traveled person, who loves cooking, art and interacting with others. An established artist who works from home, in a small studio in the house. Guests are welcome to interact with me if I am making art, and I also offer a half day workshop where people are able to create a unique piece of NZ inspired art to take with them.I love living on the Thames coast and find endless inspiration in the beautiful and ever changing landscapes.

During your stay
Once I have met the guests and settled them into their space, I tend to leave people to just do their own thing. With that said, I am only a shout out away, and am very happy to spend time chatting or giving information about the area if that's what guests would like :) I do work occasional days in Thame so there are occasions when guests may arrive and will show themselves in to the caravan. Likewise there are occasions when I am not here when guests check out.
