St.Benedict has been lovely restored by its present owners to its original Victorian layout.
There are well appointed guest bedrooms with double beds, authentic decoration and fittings. All rooms have their private bathroom with Victorian fittings.

The space

St.Benedict is a four storey villa dating to 1882, with a spacious garden and sea views over the English Channel. The house has been lovely restored by its present owners to its original Victorian layout. Fabrics and furnishings have been selected to reflect the style and taste of the 1880s, with great attention to period detail.
There are three well appointed guest bedrooms with comfortable double beds, authentic decoration and fittings, and with tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms have their private bathroom with Victorian fittings - roll top baths but no showers. The large drawing room is available for guests, with an open fire in the winter. Wifi is freely available. The full English breakfast is served in the dining room from silver serving dishes, in the manner of a Victorian country house. Evening meals are provided on request, as well as meals for parties, residential or not.
The large walled garden is available for guests to use. It has a summer house as well as two glasshouses, and even a small chapel. It is a very peaceful, quiet place for tranquil relaxation.
St.Benedict is a very unusual and special venue for a day or two at the coast or for a longer stay.

Guest access

A large drawing room is available for guests, with a piano and television. An upstairs sitting room is also available. Breakfast is in the spacious dining room. Guests may use the garden, where there is a pond and summer house, and numerous places to relax.

Interaction with guests

We socialise as much as guests wish to. Breakfast is served at whatever time guests request, and dinner can be provided on request.

Other things to note

We have decorated and furnished the house in an authentic Victorian style of the 1880-90s. Wallpapers, flooring and paintwork has been meticulously recreated. Bathrooms are also fully Victorian, with roll top baths and no showers. No period detail has been omitted.

House Rules

We do not smoke in the house, and do not keep pets.

This is a really special place with very special hosts. Catherine the house keeper was such a joy and taught us lots about the local area... the organ, the chapel, the breakfast, the garden, the hosts, Catherine... everything was perfect. Thanks for a great stay. Claire & Joseph.

A unique experience. The mansion is filled with exquisite antiques and truly captures a bygone era. Hosts were excellent and provided both a warm welcome and good local recommendations.

Amazing experience. It was a real privilege to stay in a magnificent Victorian house and with such wonderful hosts. Every room, every detail takes you back in time. We just could not believe we were actually allowed to be there. The bed was fantastic - very restful nights sleep. The garden was gorgeous. Tea and cake on arrival was a lovely touch. And breakfast - well it was an occasion! Thank you Paul and Stephen. We will be back.

We had booked with short notice and therefore the b&b's in the area where mostly full. The only room was on the 3rd floor with a bathroom on the ground floor. We where advised of this, however we decided to go for it as everywhere else was full, but I think the bathroom walk was a little more than expected! All proper rooms have there own bathrooms. Unfortunately in the morning there was no water due to a leak somewhere in the village, but Paul made every effort to collect bottled water for the guests. We where greeted by Steven initially who served us complimentary tea and cake (delicious!), in their spectacular garden. Breakfast was a social event, everybody sits around a large dining table, not really what you want if you haven't quite woken or showered yet, and me and my wife like to plan the day at the breakfast table which wasn't really possible. Breakfast was a buffet style cooked breakfast, we arrived at 9am, so we did miss the eggs but the breakfast was very good. Cant forget the house; every last little corner is detailed as it was over 120 years ago, all contained in a beautiful red brick mansion type home. It was quite amazing! We paid £120 for one night, unfortuantly I did later discover it is £90 on their own website, so was a little disappointed considering we had the bathroom walk to contend with. This is really the only down side, I feel you can't have different rates as it is just not a transparent way of conducting your business. however at the end of the day you know what you pay before you pay it so I guess it's fair that way, but knowing other guest could have paid less is a little disappointing. However, all in all we would definalty go back, the hosts where welcoming, the house and garden where awesome, and the area is very nice. I would certainly recommend it.

We have opened our house for Bed and Breakfast guests for about 9 years now. I worked as a high school teacher until 2015, when I retired to concentrate on the B&B. The house is decorated partly from objects bought on travels around the world. Gardening is a favourite occupation,…
