Staying at the Guest House in Priestman's River was an amazing experience. Our family of four (children aged 1 and 7) spent 38 days here. The home was exactly as it was pictured, had all of the kitchen/laundry type necessities and a wonderful shower. Lot's of space for unpacking, ceiling fans and an awesome front porch to relax on in the evenings. What made this guest house so amazing though was Rue's dedicated attention and the check-ins, help and even fresh fruit that Garfield and Daniel provided to our family. We felt like we had our own travel team to ask questions to and get guidance from as we explored eastern Jamaica. They are really kind and authentic people. Portland Jamaica is far from touristy with the most beautiful beaches, waterfalls, natural beauty and friendly citizens. We were welcomed with open arms everywhere we went. It's also very cheap and convenient to travel by taxi from town to town. The shops in Priestman's River offer some food, water, drinks and toiletries. Polly runs a hot food and small bar establishment just down the road. Her food is delicious, very reasonably priced and she is super kind. My daughters just loved her! We miss her already... My advice to anyone thinking about staying here is- absolutely make the choice and double the amount of time for your trip! It was the experience of a lifetime for us!

This was a great place. Breadfruit trees, which Garfield promptly climbed and gave us, even offered to roast Beautiful place

This is such a nice place to bring a family to see the real Jamaica. The house was very, very clean, I appreciated that so much after a long ride. It had all the basic things you would need. We enjoyed our stay so much thanks to Daniel who was more than happy to accompany us everywhere! We enjoyed the local beaches, the cliffs, the water falls, Blue Lagoon, Port Antonio, and Rio Grande. All on a budget! My 3 and 8 year old enjoyed the bumpy roads and the goats and cows. They got to experience life outside the US, the life I had growing up in Honduras.I could go on and on. Ultimately, this house is for those who are not looking for a resort experience. Ruel is doing an amazing thing for his town by bringing in visitors and business to the area. I hope anyone who visits will have such memorable experiences as we did.

Ruel's apartment is really well furnished and comfortable, even more than you'll probably need in your stay in Jamaica. It is located in a local parish, close to Reach Falls (20-30 min driving), local beaches and markets/bar (walking distance), Boston Beach (5 min driving), Jerk center (5 min driving), Blue Lagoon (5-10 min driving),... Ruel's apartment is quite proper for the travelers who want to feel what Jamaica really is, who want to interact with locals and their culture, who want to see how the Jamaican people really face their life,... No way do describe Ruel, you have to visit him to feel very welcomed as I felt. Such a pleasure. Thank a lot to Garfiled (other nice guy who takes care of the apartment) and Ruel, hope we can see you all soon.

WOW! We stayed with Ruel for 62 days. It was wonderful, Ruel and Garfield saw to our every need. Everything was as described in the listing. The area is not touristy, it was like being home. The people were welcoming and very friendly. If you are looking for something different from the "All Inclusive Resorts", this is the place. We really got to know the Jamaican people and their culture. In spite of what you hear about Jamaica we always felt safe. Just watch out for the taxis, you might end up sitting on someone's lap :). Rule's right hand man Garfield was great. He showed us all the best places to go and was always available to take care of whatever we needed. We would highly recommend a stay with Ruel, you won't be sorry.

Hi, We're Ruel (Rue for short) and Lohanne. I was raised on this property before immigrating to Canada many years ago. I'm a military veteran who is looking forward to retirement and spending more time on the island.

Currently, we are only able to make back to the island twice yearly however,we have a super team in place who will ensure your time at our place is care free and enjoyable.

We enjoy meeting people from all over the world and hearing their stories. We look forward to hearing yours!
