Masseria Battimurro - one luxury holiday home - consists of three buildings surrounding an impressive walled courtyard, paved with century old stone slabs and dominated by an enormous mulberry tree. It is surrounded by a private olive grove of 4,5 hectares.
(The pictures were made in winter, right after finishing the building.)
Privacy and togetherness
Masseria Battimuro is perfect for holidays with a group of friends, several couples, or two or three families. The ingenious lay-out allows each couple or family to enjoy their independency and privacy, and enjoy being all together at the same time.
The house is a 'passive house', designed to reduce its ecological footprint, and is therefore nicely cool in summer and warm in winter. We use only solar energy and collected rainwater.
Tradition and modernity
One building is a restructured farmhouse from the 19th century, fully equipped for four guests (and it has an beautiful extra outside kitchen too). Close to it, in what used to be the stable, stands an ensuite bedroom with vaulted ceilings, for two extra people. Both houses have private terraces among the olive trees, outside the courtyard.
The third and main building has two ensuite bedrooms, a large modern kitchen, a splendid living space, an open/closed dining area and large terraces, either at ground level or high among the treetops. The master bathroom has a marble floor.
Through an intelligent system of very large sliding glass walls, inside spaces become outside rooms and what seems to be an outside area can be turned into an inside place. All depends on the season, the weather, the wind, your wishes.
The house is elegantly furbished with modern, vintage and rural elements. It was designed by the renowned NU-architects.
And then there is the pool... The 21 meter long pool runs from the seclusion of the courtyard right through the main house into the openness of the olive grove. It ends at a terrace between two majestic olive trees that give you protection from the sun when needed.
Masseria Battimuro lays in an endless ocean of thousands and thousands of olive trees, 2,5 kilometers from the nearest town of San Michele Salentino, well away from other houses, along a rarely used little country road.
There are many excellent restaurants, typical markets and good shops a little drive away. During the day the only sounds you'll hear will be from farmers working their fields, at night from owls and foxes.
Interaction with guests
The owners, who live close by, are an art teacher and a writer. They turned organic olive oil producers and speak fluently Italian, English, Dutch, French and a little German. They settled in the South of Italy after a life of work and worldwide traveling and will be very happy to assist you with all your questions and requests.
Other things to note
If wished for, we can provide cooking and cleaning services.

Els used to be an art teacher. Thomas used to be a reporter, tv-host, media man. Now they run an organic olive oil farm and one of the most beautiful holiday homes in southern Italy.
