Room in a cabin

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Simon & Charlotte welcome you to your glamping cabin experience at Quirky Woods - a lush and tranquil 6 acre valley right on the edge of Maketu township, within walking distance of Newdicks Beach!
Quirky Woods is stunning in its diversity - orchard, ponds, bush and forest full of native birds.
Stay in comfort in our largest cabin up by our house, The Garden Room, which is closest to all shared guest facilities - perfect to relax and recharge your body and soul. Free wifi avail in garden area.

The space
Better than camping!!
The Garden Room is next to the shared covered BBQ and seating area, overlooks the lawn, and is a few steps away from the unisex toilet and bathroom facility. (all are shared facilities with other guests that may stay in the Morepork Forest Cabin or The Cozy Cottage)

Parking by room, if not comfortable backing out/down a small incline, we can find another spot for you farther away.

We have paths that takes you right around the property. Say hello to our 4 chickens clucking around . We harvest fruit for our own use at most times of the year - apples, oranges, tangelos, lemons, feijoas, walnuts and grapes.

Mobility - Being wild and wonderful, we apologise that this property is not suitable for those with limited mobility or needing to use mobility aids.

Driveway - Welcome to our slice of Paradise, but please take care on our rustic driveway as the initial part is quite steep and turns sharply so is not suited to "large" vehicles. Please go slow at all times. At night, you may also spot the opossums!

Available dates- As per Calendar. Extended stays possible upon request, up to one month.

Linen - All linens and bedding supplied, including towels. Electric blanket and heater available in the colder months. This is glamping at its best......

Guest access
All areas of the property are shared space, except owners' home. We may at times close a path after a storm for maintenance and your safety

Where you’ll be

Maketu, Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand

Neighbours - so close, yet so far away!
We are at times reminded that amazingly we do actually have neighbours!

Maketu has an estuary that is popular for kite surfing, kayaking and picnics/BBQs and also has a boat ramp. Safe swimming is popular by the Surf Club. Additionally, Newdicks Beach is an absolute gem and can be accessed by car via private road (note- road fee applies and no rubbish facilities) and when surf is up, a favourite spot for locals. We have walking access through our property to this stunning beach - thanks to our neighbours who allow us to cut through their paddock !!
Within 20-45 minutes drive we have miles of beaches stretching from Papamoa to Mt Maunganui, shopping, cafes etc. Walking and cycling tracks are numerous.
Whakatane is about the same distance away - as is Rotorua, offering easy access to Lake Rotoiti, the Redwoods and everything else Rotorua is known for. We are a perfect home base to explore from.

Kia ora! We have lived in Maketu since 2014 before moving here in 2017. It captured our hearts..... and we named it Quirky Woods. Simon is self-employed and is a passionate drummer. Music is an integral part of our lives as a result. Charlotte works in the wider community. Her passion is wellbeing, community, nature and creativity. We LOVE spending time on the property, as well as the beach, with family, music events etc, life is full on :)
