Le Nid is a beautifully renovated two bed roomed house on the outskirts of the village of Monboyer, Charente. It is ideal for those looking for a base from which to tour the region or, for those looking for a mini-break of just a few days.

The space

Le Nid, which forms part of an old cognac estate called Langlade, is a truly lovely property . Comprising of a main living room, a separate kitchen/dining area, two bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin room) and two bathrooms the property is ideal for either couples or small families. The house is spacious with a floor area of 100 sq mtrs (1070sf).

Particularly attractive features of the property include exposed oak beams, chestnut floors and cut-stone walls. There are french doors leading from both kitchen and living room onto the back terrace which overlooks the garden, an ideal location for barbecues, evening aperitifs or simply soaking up the sun. Meanwhile, each bedroom also has french doors onto to a lovely little covered balcony running the length of the house.

Le Nid, set in the magnificent rolling countryside of Charente offers guests a haven of rural tranquility yet, at the same time, is close enough to all amenities to ensure that they do not feel isolated. The village of Montboyer, a small country village is only 1km away while the market town of Chalais with its shops bars and restaurants and supermarket is only 7km away.

Meanwhile, the village of Aubeterre, voted one of the prettiest villages in France, with it lovely square and famous monolithic church is only a ten minute drive from the property. Bordeaux, Angouleme, Cognac and Saint Emilion, all within an hours drive, are all worth visiting whilst a trip to the Dordogne reveals the wonders of its beautiful towns and valleys along the river of the same name. An hour’s drive brings you to the beaches of the Atlantic coast.

Langlade is steeped in local history and tradition. So far the owners have been able to trace the history of the property back to the mid 1600's, though with further digging they are confident they will be able to trace back even further. Among the more illustrious previous owners of L'Anglade have been Dangiaud de L'Anglade, advocat to the Prince of Tallyrand and Lord of Perigord. More recently, Francis Ganivet Desgraviers, a famous French soldier was born on the property in 1768. In later life Degraviers went on to become a famous and much decorated General in the Army before retiring in 1807 to get married.

According to the history books, his new wife proved to be something of a heart scald which prompted Degraviers to leave the matrimonial home after just two years of marriage and rejoin the army. Alas, his second term in the army proved to be nearly as short lived as his marriage with Degraviers being fatally injured at the battle of Arapiles, Salamanca in 1812.

Not having being lived in for over 25 years, Langlade was in a very rundown condition when the present owners acquired the property in early 1994. Over the course of a number of years since then a major renovation programmer has been undertaken to restore the property to its former glory.

Today the property, which is set in over three acres of mature wooded and landscaped gardens comprises of four dwellings - the main house (which is owner occupied), two four bed holiday homes, Villa Anglade and La Petite Anglade and our two bed roomed property, Le Nid.

Guest access

Guests staying in Le Nid have access to the garden immediately behind their house but do not have access to either of the swimming pools on the property. These are reserved exclusively for the use of the occupants of the other two holiday homes on the property.
