Great location
95% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Sweet little spot tucked away downtown in Hilo with bright light and ocean breeze. Tropical gardens surround the house making it feel more remote. Located just 5-10 minutes walk or drive from the airport, groceries, banks, pharmacy, restaurants, beaches, waterfalls, and more. Perfect little home base for east Hawaii exploration, or islandwide adventures. Great for young solo travelers or couples into gardening and sustainability. *This home is LGBTQI+ friendly, and safe space for all*

The space
When you approach the house you'll come down the driveway into the carport where there's a grill and outdoor dining area, with the garden in the background. If you have a car you can park in the driveway while you’re staying here. The room is upstairs in the main house, facing west and looking over the garden where you'll see starfruit, soursop, and a cacao tree growing outside the window. This simple and clean Queen room is perfect for crashing in after adventuring around the island or arriving in Hilo on a late flight. This private room is located across the hall from the bathroom, and adjacent to the living room and kitchen. In consideration of everyone’s safety and well being, the second bedroom will be blocked off so that you’ll have the entire place to yourself. If you wish to rent both rooms you can reserve them on the other listing for the whole house.
The house is raised up and nestled against a hillside, and has lots of windows looking over the gardens that provide a sort of tree house view and feeling. There's usually a nice ocean or mountain breeze flowing through, as the house is just a few hundred yards from Hilo bay front. Guests are welcome to peruse the gardens outside. Depending on the season, there may be fruit to pick for breakfast, cacao to make chocolate with, or vanilla flowers to pollinate.
Things to consider before coming to Hawai'i:
The tropical weather in Hilo can be hot and/or humid at times. There is no AC in the house, but each room has a fan for guests to use.
If this is your first time in the tropics, you should also know that there are lots of insects and lizards here. You might even see a gecko on the kitchen counter if there is any fruit sitting around.
In Hilo there are also lots of coqui frogs chirping at night. The house has gardens all around where they like to live. Many people find the frog's song to be charming, but earplugs are provided for guests who would like to use them.
There's a gym next door to the house on the adjacent property that's open from 4am-10pm most days. Occasional sounds from over there are not uncommon.

Where you’ll be

Hilo, Hawaii, United States

The house is located on the west border of downtown Hilo so there are several shops, restaurants, pharmacy, bank, parks, local coffee shops, etc. within walking distance. It is an urban setting so everything is close together.
Downtown Hilo is quaint and charming. Very old timey and laid back, there are no high standards here.

I play cello and like to go to open mics and karaoke around town sometimes, or jam at home around a campfire. I love outdoor adventures into to the forest, up the mountain, to remote waterfalls, or to the beach; and enjoy playing tour guide :) if I'm not working i can take you on said adventures. I'm also a baker, so you may also get fresh pastries with your coffee in the morning!

I live downstairs in a separate apartment, and will likely be around to greet you upon arrival, but won't get in the way of your plans unless you want to hang out or adventure together. Otherwise I will reserve the space for you to use.
