Totally unique in Austin, HausBar Urban Farm and GuestHaus is a working 2 acre organically maintained farm! You'll be able to relax in your bungalow; visit with our donkeys, geese, chickens, ducks and bunnies; make your own delicious meals from HausBar Farms' bounty in your fully equipped kitchen, and have easy access to East Side and Downtown Austin restaurants, bars and shopping. The house sleeps up to 4 people comfortably on one king-sized bed in the bedroom and a pull-out queen in the living room.
You will have our whole bungalow to enjoy for yourselves with a beautiful fenced yard. The backyard features a patio and grill for great outdoor cooking and dining. And you're welcome to wander the pasture and garden areas to hang out with the animals and check out our year-round organic vegetable garden.
Interaction with guests
My wife, Susan, and I live here at HausBar Farm in a house at the back of the property and are thrilled to host people in the bungalow at the front of our farm. For guests interested, we offer a variety of workshops about gardening, homesteading, composting, chicken raising, and aquaponic agriculture, for a more in depth farm experience. For those looking for a romantic get-away with minimal/no interaction with us, we're glad to provide that opportunity as well.
We encourage people who stay at our guesthouse to enjoy the company of our donkeys, ducks, geese, bunnies, and chickens with a gentle and loving demeanor. Please, no chasing of any of our animals. Please do not have parties which would make us, our animals, or our neighbors feel uncomfortable in any way. Sorry, there are no pets allowed in our guesthouse. We are a non-smoking farm and guesthouse indoors and outdoors. Thank you, ahead of time, observing our house rules! We look forward to your stay with us.
My name is Dorsey Barger and food and hospitality are my great loves. I owned and operated the Eastside Cafe in east Austin for 24 years and became passionately involved in growing vegetables organically, sourcing food locally, recycling fanatically, and composting radically. I sold the Eastside Cafe in 2011 to start HausBar Farm with my partner, Susan Hausmann, to see just how far we could push our adventure in sustainable living. In 2014 we opened HausBar Urban Farm GuestHaus. It's a brand new part of our farming adventure.
