Welcome to The 5th Floor, our Boutique Bed & Breakfast in the finest part of Palermo. Room 5 is 14 sq/m, a compact but comfortable room with queen-sized bed. However the bathroom has a tight shower stall, so not recommended for larger clients.
We are located in Palermo on a surprisingly quiet street a block away from the pedestrianized Charcas Boulevard with its shady cafés and the palm fronded square of Plaza Guemes, home of the impressive Guadalupe Church. A block the other way brings you to Santa Fe Avenue, one of the city’s main shopping streets and home of the upmarket Alto Palermo shopping centre. Within 500 yards you have the subway and several bus lines that can deliver you efficiently to most of the touristic destinations in the city. Unlike much of Palermo, whose rehabilitation has largely been the work of the last decade, this area has historically been a smart residential and professional address and it retains a typical porteño character.
As its name suggests, The 5th Floor covers the fifth and sixth (top) floors of a building that was constructed at the beginning of the 40’s. Built as the principal residence of the building’s original architect it was his ‘Petit Hotel’ with flourishes of Art Deco style evident in its stained glass windows and award winning marble staircase.
In addition to it’s high ceilinged, airy rooms, guests benefit from a spacious living room and bar area (with honesty bar and a shady terrace), and a dining room leading onto a sizeable and very sunny Andalusian terrace, with the obligatory parrilla (BBQ). If the heat gets too much it can be covered with a protective awning and in the event of chillier weather efficient outside heating warms it, making the space comfortably available throughout the year.
All our rooms are different, as are their bathrooms. However they all boast top quality King or Queen sized beds and linens, with leather bed heads and two different pillow sizes, custom made furniture crafted by local artisans, period lighting, original parquet flooring, flat screen HD TV with a wide range of cable channels (the 5 bigger rooms have smart TV allowing you to surf the internet on them) and free wifi access. All rooms have on-suite bathrooms of varying sizes, big windows and individually controlled air conditioning and heating.
Breakfast is included in the room rate and is normally served from 9.00-10.30. It includes standard Argentine breakfast items plus yogurt, fruit, freshly squeezed juice and cooked items on demand.
Free wifi – we have invested in 3 separate wifi services so there is normally coverage throughout the property. The 5 larger bedrooms also have Smart TV’s that allow you to surf the web, operate Youtube and connect your laptop wirelessly.
Interaction with guests
At The 5th Floor, you will be hosted by its owners and their multilingual team. Both Veronica (Argentine, former diplomatic lawyer) and myself (British, former venture capitalist) have lived and worked internationally, travelled extensively and are united by our views about what hospitality should be. We both have a passion for Buenos Aires though individually enjoy and have expertise in different aspects. We try to ensure we are accessible to our guests, especially over the breakfast period and again at cocktail hour. Please note that we are a small team trying to provide unrivalled comfort at an accessible price and thus do not have a 24-hour receptionist.
