For the more active there are 4 mountain bikes on which you can explore the village area, or simply stroll through the paddy fields and along the river or climb up through a wooded glen for more spectacular views. Bible rock is around 5kms away and a challenge to climb for the more adventurous.

Interaction with guests

During your stay you will be looked after by Jeyanthi and Sudharma who live in a small house next to Guava House, they will be there to do all the cleaning and washing-up daily. Either buy and cook your own food in a modern well-equipped kitchen, with stunning views or ask Jeyanthi to prepare Sri Lankan rice and curry.

Other things to note

Guava House is family home which has been designed and built by the owner architect, to blend in and compliment the surrounding nature outside, the roof is thatched in “iluk” (a Sri Lankan reed) and the floors and walls are mango wood and teak.

We have a Wi Fi connection, however it is not unlimited. It is sufficient for sending emails and limited internet use. The Wi Fi connection throughout the country can be intermittent.

In this tropical rural area there are an array of wild insects, including mosquitoes, butterflies, beetles etc. Remember to bring mosquito repellent. However we provide mosquito nets on all the beds.
During rainy periods, it is likely that you will encounter leeches in the land around the house and chalets. They are harmless, but if bitten by one you may feel a slight itch for a few days. In the house we have a list of tips for avoiding them!

Guava House is situated on top of a hill surrounded by rubber trees, paddy fields and mountains. The beauty of the place is the secluded and remote location, however along with this comes with the occasional area power cuts which usually last for a couple of hours. We have plenty of torches to hand and gas hobs and oven to cook on. Unfortunately we do not have a generator, so the fans will not operate while the power is off.

Sometimes fully packed vans have difficulty going up the hill all the way to the house, (especially if has been raining) however they can park at the bottom of the hill and you can walk up to the house, our staff will be on hand to bring all the luggage up.

The pool is an architectural reflective plunge pool. It is about 5 foot deep (small children cannot stand in it) and does not have steps, so can be a little difficult to get out of the for the less able or elderly.

During rainy periods, it is likely that you will encounter leeches in the land around the house and chalets. They are harmless, but if bitten by one you may feel a slight itch for a few days. In the house we have a list of tips for avoiding them!

Please handle the bi-folding glass doors with care as they are fragile and there is certain technique to opening and closing them (Ask Jeyanthi for assistance)

This house is not suitable for very young children for various reasons (If you would like further information about this, contact Shaunagh.)

This is our precious family home which we are sharing with you, we hope you will respect it as you would your own.

Guava house is absolutely stunning and the perfect place to relax and take some time out from our sri Lanka travels. Jeyanthi the housekepper cooked us the best food we've had in sri Lanka and looked after us so well. And Jane and shaunaugh went out of their way to ensure our visit ran smoothly. Staying at guava house was definitely the highlight of our holiday so far. Thanks so much for opening your home to us. Vanessa

We had a wonderful time at this sri- lankan jungle retreat. Very calm, very remote and perfect for the 2 families we were. We loved the currues Jejanthi and her husband prepared as well as their breakfasts. They really looked after us very well but kept very much in the back . The communication and check-in with ajita was excellent and quick. Higly recommended!! And we loved Molly the dog!!

Guava House is an exceptional property in every way. It's exceptional by its design and architecture which is brilliant, beautifully nested in the forest and really remote from the world. The keepers are lovely, very helpful and good cooks as well! There are few letdowns which in my opinion need to be addressed rapidly to make it a fantastic property: - electricity seems to be an issue throughout. We had no light outside at all which makes it impossible to enjoy the outside area after dark. The spots in both bathrooms are out of their sockets and don't work. - there is hardly no hot water in the bedroom on the living side. 4 days without hot shower feels long. - there is no hot water in the kitchen (broken apparently) - the pool water was murky, I don't know if it's supposed to be like that but you can't see your feet. Overall a good stay which could have been a great with a little bit of maintenance.

Response from Shaunagh:
Antoine, thank you for coming to stay. I am very sorry to hear about your above issues at the house. No hot water is most unusual, we will be dealing with these issues as soon as we can, thank you for informing us.

The house is absolutely beautiful in a very secluded part of Sri Lanka, perfect for relaxing and getting away from the hustle and bustle of every day life! As it's remote I would recommend eating at the house and the housekeepers will cook for you if you ask them to, the food is really delicious! Try not to swallow any pool water and make sure you bring your bug spray! Overall a great experience.

We stayed at Guava House for 3 nights in July. So memorable. Fantastic house and location in the trees and lots to do and see in the surrounding area. Felt like we were off the tourist route and we saw the real Sri Lanka. Shaunagh was fantastic to deal with on all arrangements and housekeepers Jeyanthi and Sudharma catered for our every need. Jeyanthi cooked every meal for us and her food was lovely. Sudharma and his son joined us on our hike up Bible Rock. Great stay and lovely memories. Thanks Shaunagh.

It was such a great experience, I loved the house and it's location, very relaxing and welcoming. Jainthi and her husband were lovely, they were there for us the whole time. I'm missing Molly the dog already, she is so adorable and smart. I enjoyed just laying on the wooden chair and breathe. Food was delicious, bedrooms were clean and cozy. Watching the sunrise was my favorite moment. I really want to visit Guava house again. Thank you Shaunagh

I am a Kundalini Yoga teacher. I like going to beautiful locations in the world and I was lucky enough to live in Sri Lanka for 15 years, one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Family is important to me and working with inspiring people around me.
