Our centrally located Historic Home in the Bywater area puts the Big Easy at your fingertips! You are just steps away form some of the hippest bars, clubs, galleries, restaurants, live jazz and fantastic local flavor New Orleans has to offer. We are located close to the historic neighborhoods of Marigny and the French Quarter. Only a short walk from the nearby streetcar as well as the beautiful Cresent park where you can walk along the banks of the Mississippi to the French Quarter.

The space

Between the amazing cuisine, the fantastic music and the fabulous nightlife, you need the perfect place to kick up your heels in the Big Easy. Our beautiful, centrally-located, 2 bedroom home can sleep 6 and is the perfect place to unwind.

Your home in New Orleans is on a quiet street in the hip Upper Ninth Ward Bywater neighborhood. While Bywater can look a little rough around the edges to those unfamiliar with New Orleans, we love it! Our street is very safe and our neighbors are friendly and fantastic. Our neighborhood is full of art, music and culture. It is a traditional New Orleans "shotgun" style house or a "double" or "duplex". We live on one side and the guesthouse is on the other. The house is full of cheery natural light as well as paintings from a local artist. We provide tons of information regarding the nearby restaurants, music clubs and bars in our very own guidebook. We also provide 3 bicycles to use during your stay. Each bedroom (2) has a super comfy queen size bed and the futon in the front room folds into a queen size bed. We also have twin and queen-size Aerobeds and an extra queen-size futon for parties requiring more than the 3 queen size beds. There is a full kitchen at your disposal. The backyard is a fabulous place to kick back and relax in the shade of a large Sugarberry tree or on your private porch. Guests are welcome to use one of our two BBQ grills or crawfish boil pots in our atmospherically lighted backyard (where we had out wedding reception last Spring). We have a delightful garden full of fresh fruit, vegetables and sugar cane (seasonal) at your disposal. Our guesthouse is a legal and permitted guesthouse with the City of New Orleans. Permit #17STR-03648

AMENITIES INCLUDE:

-Free wifi
-Central air conditioning and heat
-Kitchen stocked with coffee, tea, snacks and a six pack of beer
- No pets / All hypo-allergenic linens
- Linens, towels, and basic toiletries provided
-BBQ and crawfish boil pots

New Orleans' chicory coffee and a six pack of Louisiana's Abita beer will be waiting for you to get things started right! We also provide three bicycles for our guests.

The guesthouse is located right next door to our house. If we are home Peter LOVES to show people around and will be happy to make sure you have the most wonderful experience in the city we so passionately love. We will be available to help guests with anything they might need.

Chances are, if the weather is right, the smell of Cajun seafood and BBQ will be wafting over the guesthouse fence to the sounds of ukulele, guitars etc., if you can smell it, you're invited!

The Bywater neighborhood is a colorful and eclectic area. It is a blue collar neighborhood that is in a state of flux. After Hurricane Katrina artists, musicians and volunteers flocked here from all over the country, leaving Bywater a colorful mix of the old and the new. Nestled within its historic streets you will find small art galleries, fabulous bars and every kind of music club. You will fall asleep to the sounds of the insects of the tropics and be awakened by birds and the sounds of jazz musicians practicing. Check out our guidebook for some local tips!

The guesthouse is located within a short walk from many of the city's best restaurants and bars. The French Quarter is a 20 minute walk away. The popular Frenchman Street with its innumerable jazz clubs is just a 10-15 minute walk. New Orleans is a very easy city to get around in via Bicycle. We provide 3 bicycles for our guests to use. Public transport is a breeze with several buses that pass nearby. The airport is approximately 25 minutes away. There is a streetcar line that runs to the French Quarter about 12-15 min walk away.

There is a train in the area that passes a few times a day, but it doesn't bother us. Anyhow, full disclosure.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire property. There is a private back patio that will lead guests into the shared backyard and bar area.

Interaction with guests

We are happy to help you orient yourself with the city. Peter is always willing to take a little walking tour of the neighborhood upon request. Otherwise we try to give our guests absolute privacy.

Other things to note

There is a train in the area that passes a few times a day, but it doesn't bother us. Anyhow, full disclosure.

This was our first Airbnb experience and it was perfect. Little touches like snacks, bottled water, and cold beer waiting for us upon arrival were unexpected but very much appreciated. Don't let the neighborhood fool you. It was very quiet and I chatted with some of the neighbors who were lovely. We parked our car right in front and didn't drive it again until it was time to go home. Take Uber or Lyft anywhere you want to go. Peter knocked it out of the park with dinner recommendations. We will definitely stay again when we rerurn. It's a classic shotgun house so keep that in mind if you come with another couple as you have to walk through one bedroom to get to the other. There were just two of us so that didn't matter at all but is something to think about if bringing more than two people. Stay away from the tourist traps. Stay here and get a real New Orleans experience.

Peter and Jess's place was great for our weekend trip. They had great guides for where to go in the neighborhood and French quarter was a quick lyft ride away. The house was very clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay.

Peter is not only friendly but also very informative of the land. Told us where to eat and where to hear goo Jazz music. Im sure to be back so he and his wife can catch some drinks with us.

Pete and Jess are great hosts. Their place has everything you need for a great stay in NOLA, nicely decorated and very comfy beds. The kitchen is a bit limited, however, YOU ARE IN NEW ORLEANS. You do not need to cook anything but coffee to get you out the door. And Pete and Jess provide coffee and beer on tap in the backyard. Really!

Peter&Jess User ProfilePeter&Jess is a superhost.

Our travels would not have been as beautiful if not for the kindness and hospitality we experienced. We strive to provide that same hospitality to our guests. We love visitors and want to make your stay in NOLA an unforgettable one. We will be available to give advice and tips on where to go and what to see (Peter more than likely might join in the fun; Jessica's working on her PhD in Geography & Anthropology and sadly, doesn't have as much time to join).

Over the course of the 30 countries we have backpacked through and lived in throughout Southeast Asia, South and East Africa, Europe, the Arabian Peninsula and Central America, we always sought to find a more unique and local experience, thus airbnb today!

We want to provide a fun, safe and energized environment. When we are not writing our airbnb profile we are being musicians, cooks, artists and students. Don't be surprised if you smell boiling seafood wafting across the fence; in fact, if you do, give us a holla and join in our fun!
