The place was perfect to explore the city. It is only minutes to all famous buildings in Istanbul. The host cleaned our room every day and helped us when we had any needs. Altogether it was a very good apartment and I would recommend it to others!

Perfect location. Clean. Ali was very helpful and attentive. Perfect for someone looking to stay in Sultanahmet and on a budget. I highly recommend it.

Ali has been a great host. He has been extremely helpful and was available all the time. Located in a safe neighbourhood, apartment is excellently located near all the tourist spots. Grand Bazaar, The Blue Mosque, and Sophia Haque are just 5-7 mins away. You can take a walk along the sea side, which is just 2 mins away. Apartment is in excellent condition. It is cleaned everyday with fresh towels and toiletries. I would recommend Ali's apartment to all travellers to Istanbul, who are looking for a pleasant and memorable stay.

We were very happy with our stay at Ali's place. Ali has two different rooms at the first floor of a little building in an excellent location, only few steps from the Hyppodrome and the Blue Mosque. The largest of the two rooms is a nice mini-apartment, provided with a kitchenette, a little table with chairs, and a sofa. The bathroom has a comfortable shower but no window and no ventilation. The king-size bed is extremely comfortable. The rooms look onto the street: there is really not much traffic but sometimes it can be a bit noisy. Rather than apartment rooms, it's a kind of apart-hotel: a great advantage is the fact that the apartment is cleaned every day, like in a hotel. Ali speaks English, Italian and other languages (French and German, if I remember well), and is extremely kind and helpful. He also runs a laundry in the same street. We very much appreciated all his efforts to make us feel comfortable. Make sure you get the large room if you want more comfort, because the difference is big (e.g. no box for the shower in the bathroom of the smaller room). The apartment is more than worth the 60 € per night we paid. If we come back to Istanbul we will very likely stay at Ali's place again!

A truly disappointing experience with Airbnb On March 17th., 2014 I received confirmation about an apartment in Istanbul, Turkey which I had booked through Airbnb. On March 19th., 2014 I received a message from host informing me to cancel my reservation as the host has “technical problem” with his apartment. I immediately tried cancelling the reservation with Airbnb but on reading the Airbnb cancellation policy I was informed that it is the host that has to cancel the reservation as the “technical problem” came from him. On March 20th., 2014 I then informed the host to cancel his reservation but did not receive a reply. On March 21st., 2014 I followed up with a reminder to the host of his duty to cancel the reservation. On March 21st., 2014 after my reminder the host informed me that I need not cancel the reservation anyway as he had fixed his “technical problem”. Contrary to what was stated in his last message, I did not want to cancel my reservation at the last minute. The minute I received his request to cancel the reservation I had tried to do the same with Airbnb but was informed that it is the host that has to cancel the reservation. Further, there is no menu choice in the Airbnb system for the guest to cancel and request for refund. On hindsight, I think the modus operandi here is for the host to list an apartment for rental then after hooking a guest the host informs the guest that the place is not available knowing fully well that only the host can cancel the reservation in order for the guest to receive a full refund. After that and after the guest had to find alternative accommodation the host then happily informs the guest that he need not cancel his reservation after all. At the end of the day, the host gets to keep at least a day’s rental and Airbnb pockets the rest. I feel that I have been cheated by both host and Airbnb and I demand to be fully refunded!!
