Nestled in an olive grove in the foothills of Monte Amiata, our guesthouse is perfect for day trips to Tuscany's famous sites, or simply enjoy the tranquility and outstanding beauty of the surrounding countryside, yet only a 10 minute drive from town

The space

Situated in a verdant valley, where the local contadini still grow wine and olives on a small, scale for their families, our rustic guesthouse offers the perfect escape for a couple or small family/group of friends. The guesthouse is part of a complex of three buildings, yet is designed so that complete seclusion can be maintained if so desired. There are splendid views over a landscape which remains untouched by commercial farming - a brutal reality for most parts of Tuscany, yet still close enough to comfortably enjoy a day trip to Siena or Florence. Spring brings an abundance of flora and fauna and with a beautiful river a 15 minute walk from your door, you may find that you don't leave our valley quite as often as you planned! Yet there are lots of sightseeing opportunities on your doorstep; explore the Etruscan tombs of Pitigliano (60mins) or Sorano (50mins), The Piazza del Campo, Siena (70 mins), Montalcino's magnificent vineyards (35mins,) the hot springs of Bagno Vignoni (40mins) or Petriolo (35mins) and the glorious Tuscan coast in just under an hour. Oh, did I mention the night sky? We have virtually no light pollution, so the night sky from here is an awesome site to behold.

Guest access

You have your own independent house, which is situated a short distance from our elegant, slightly scruffy Farm house which we built a few years ago. The guesthouse has been renovated but would have orignally been used to shelter animals on the ground floor with the family living above. Approximately 35m2 in size, it benefits from it's own private courtyard and driveway with an unspoilt view over the surrounding countryside.

Interaction with guests

We are there if you need us, to give advice and recommendations but we will totally respect your privacy.

Other things to note

The guesthouse is perfectly comfortable inside, however the garden is still in the process of being completed, so please bear all this in mind before booking. The sofabed downstairs is a small double and probably not suitable for a couple intending on staying for more than two or three nights.

Free parking on premises
Wireless Internet

House Rules

We kindly ask that you treat the house and the nature surrounding it with the respect they deserve. No smoking inside the guesthouse, although ashtrays are provided for those that wish to smoke outside.

This is truly Tuscany's best kept secret. If you are looking for beautiful and calm place to relax for a couple of days, then look no further. The house is surrounded by olive groves and in short driving distance of some of South Tuscany's most interesting spots (e.g. Montalcino, Pitigliano or Monte Argentario on the coast).

We had a perfect week at Susanna and Jonno's house. The house is situated in the middle of olive fields, away in the hills, but still close to all the things you need. The house stands on the property of Susanna, Jonno, their 2 kids and 2 lovely dogs. They all were super kind, very helpful and involved. Because of an extremely dry season there was no river, but we went to the sea and Susanna recommended us the best spots, which was not very far away and really nice. We were invited for dinner on the terras of their house, and there we got to know a very open minded family with the best hospitality, great humor, interesting stories... We had an amazing meal, very good wine and talked until late. Susanna and Jonno are great hosts and the house is perfect. Highly recommended! Many thanks Susanna and family, and we hope to see you again!

This is a real secret. If you want to calm down and want to be relax this place is an heaven on earth. The greatest thing about this accomodation is that you have a little house just for yourself. Susanna and her husband Jonno are always helpful, have a great heart and have fantastic recommendations what to visit in the area. We will definitely come back. To sum it up: its perfect.

This was by far my best airbnb experience! I say this for the apartment, the location and, above all, the hosts Susanna and Jono. The apartment is a cute little original Tuscan farmhouse. It has a kitchen / living room with a great fireplace on the bottom floor and a nice, simple bedroom with bath on the second floor. Very clean, and cosy. Jono is a furniture designer (originally from London), with great taste, and did most of the renovations himself. The location is very special. I expected the typical, touristy Toscana, but at Susanna's and Jono's house you get to live the genuine Toscana. You live among olive trees, wine yards, tomatoes plants and at night a sky full of stars. The house is about 1,5 km from the nearest, paved road. Hence, the only thing you hear, smell and see is nature. You can spend relaxed days at the house and it's beautiful terrace or you can explore the surroundings. You can road and mountain bike or run or swim in the nearby river. Or you can visit multiple historical sites like Siena or Etruscan archeological sites, visit wine yards (there are probably over 200 wineries in a 50 km radius) and olive oil farms. On top of all that you have Susanna and Jono. We felt like friends of friends, never as just tourist guests, at the beginng - and as friends at departure. At arrival, they invited us to beer, wine, olives. They gave us a great to do list. Susanna genoursly gave us pasta, coffee, milk and bread so we had food for the first night and breakfast. Over our 10 day stay, Jono took us to a nearby village celebration and a classical concert at an 14th Templar castle, which was renovated by a curious English lady. On our second night, Susanna and Jono invited us to come along for dinner at a nearby restaurant with dear friends of theirs. Would I come again (Jono asked me)? Well, more than that, staying with Jono and Susanna made me think about if I should not just get myself a place next to theirs (well, it would be at least a kilometer away) - and maybe stay there for good. Thanks Susanna and Jono for a somewhat life changing experience. Thanks to airbnb for making such experiences possible!

Our stay at Susannas house was wonderful and our best Airbnb experience so far. The house is charming and beautifully decorated and has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. It has that little extra that just make you wish you could stay longer. The house is situated in absolutely beautiful and quiet surroundings with stunning views all around. We could swim in the river close by which was fantastic, and there were many nice places to drive to in the area. Among other things we went to the hot springs in Petriolo and to the sea in Alberese. Both were great. Susanna and her family were the best hosts and made us feel extremely welcome. They went out of their way to help us and gave us great tips on places to go and things to see. We would love to come back, and although we would like to keep this beautiful place a secret, we highly recommend it! Many thanks to Susanna and her family - we hope to see you again.

Our stay amongst endless green hills, mountain views, lovely animals including a horse roaming around olive trees and a great famliy host was unforgettable! When visiting Tuscany the only tip I can give to people is avoid tourists. As much as you can. And this property sums this up. If you want great peace of mind, a wood burning stove and an ideal location in Val d' orcia within reach to places like Montalcino and Mount Amiata look no further. This place is more of an artists refuge with lots of character rather than an industrialy organised and touristic B&B.

Viele Dank!
