Perfect room for one or two traveling to our nation's Capital. This 100 year old home is recently renovated yet retains all the charms of wood floors and cozy radiator heat. 10 minute walk to the metro (red line) and one block to major bus lines.

The space

The room is a little small but has a double bed, which should give you a sense of perspective.

Guest access

Guest will have access to all the amenities of the house, except the living room which I use as my study/unwind area.

Other things to note

Please do not inquire about special discounts for longer term rentals. The price of the room is already competitively priced for the area and has been in high demand since being listed. Keep in mind prices include utilities, which is often not included in other non-AirBnB rentals. Longer term rentals preferred.

There are no permanent pets in the house but occasionally my girlfriends dog comes to visit for a few days.

I stayed with Jon for 10 weeks this summer, and I had a great time! Jon is very friendly and welcoming, and is committed to making the house a safe, clean, and friendly place for his guests. The neighborhood felt safe (this is coming from a 20-something female) and quiet, but there are places to grab takeout and other things you might need nearby. Only negative I can think of was that the place is about a 15 minute walk away from the Metro, which I had to take every day to get to my internship. But once on the Metro, the ride in to city center goes pretty quickly. The house was clean and well-furnished. I did a lot of cooking at home, and the kitchen is fully equipped and has a good amount of counter space. And the Safeway across the street is super convenient for picking up groceries. As I hope you can tell, I would definitely recommend staying at Jon's house!

Fantastic place, super friendly host! I stayed with Jon for three months in summer '16. Whenever he was around he was helpful, entertaining, and insightful. I always felt welcome and well taken care of. I would totally stay here again the next time I come to DC!

I stayed at Jon's house for three months and immediately felt at home. Jon and the other residents are exceptionally nice, funny and open people. You will never feel alone, but if you need some 'me-time' just close the door to your room and everybody will be accepting of that. There never were any fights and if there were any questions, Jon and the others would get back to you immediately. The neighborhood is nice, quiet and safe. Grocery stores are right around the corner (Safeway+Starbucks 2mins, WalMart 10mins). It's a 15min walk to the metro station from where you'll be in Downtown in another 15mins. But you can also take the bus which is in 5mins walking distance. All in all I had a wonderful experience in Jon's home. 10/10- would stay there again and again.

I stayed here for a full summer, and it worked out really well for me. Jon was a great host and very welcoming. The house is nice and in a quiet neighborhood. There's a DC metro station less than a mile away, so commuting into the city each day was fairly simple (and so was going into the city to see the monuments, museums, etc.) The AC worked well and made it very comfortable during even the hottest summer days. Rock Creek Park is less than a mile away, and nice place to run, hammock, cookout or hang out. Overall, it was a very good experience!

Jon is one of the most considerate and respectful people that I have met. Staying in his home was a wonderful experience where I truly felt like I was in my home too.

Living with Jonathon at his home in Brightwood/Takoma has been great. The home has been tastefully remodeled with stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, new fixtures in the upstairs bathroom, new washer/dryer in the basement and wood floors throughout. The house itself is sturdy, post-war brick with nice character. The neighborhood is quiet and contains a smattering of well-maintained bungalows and duplexes. If you're looking to be in the heart of DC nightlife, you may find Takoma boring. On the other hand, the location is very convenient for folks commuting to Silver Spring, College Park or Columbia Heights. 5 minute walk to the Takoma Aquatic Center (pool, tennis courts, basketball courts). Safeway and CVS are visible from the front door; a new Walmart is a few blocks south on Georgia. Express buses on Georgia Ave and 16th St are also great. Jon, the owner, lives on site and is beyond responsive to any issues or concerns, besides being a very cool guy and DC native.

I love that Jon made me feel at home from day one, he truly adopted the policy of my home is your home. Even feel like I've made a friend :)The room was actually even better than the photos posted with room for storage, I had room in the kitchen to store food and cook, and had a great time meeting other long term airbnb people. I stayed in the winter time and the room was warm, Jon responded quickly to any concerns, texts, etc, and there's even a lock on the door for any travelers that may be nervous about staying in someone's house (though I didn't use it). Jon is one of the few born and bred in DC so he was great for suggesting things to do, places to visit, how to get around etc; also great company for a chat over a cup of tea. Highly recommend staying with Jon.

I'm a small business owner in Washington DC (You can web search JONWYE to find out more) and I've just bought this super nice house in NW DC. I've lived here most of my life and really love DC and being in the mix of all the activity.

I've watched it change from a city with no youthful population to one of the most exciting cities in which to live.

When I am not working I have a wonderfully artistic group of friends to distract me with new city adventures. I love talking about space and science, wishing that could have been my career path had I been more math adept.

Because of the nature of my job I am very outgoing and friendly and try to surround myself with good people. Please don't request a room if the art of cordiality is lost on you.

The house is perfect for those coming to DC for internships, fellowships, and new permanent residents looking to acclimate to a new city.

Currently I have a Peace Corp volunteer and a foreign journalist renting. It's a good group.
