Totally remodeled Carriage House, with gourmet kitchen, heated tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom, outdoor kitchen with gas grill, and covered deck. HBO Showtime and full cable. Free internet access. Private 11 acre parcel, 5 minutes from I-26

The space

Built around the turn of the 20th century, the Rock House was used as a hunting lodge on an estate estimated to have been over 700 acres at one point in time. Originally used as a servants quarters, the Carriage House is one of several structures on the property and the first to be renovated. The cottage has a gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances, two drawer dishwasher, and gas range/oven. There are heated tile floors in both the kitchen and in the bathroom with endless hot water in the shower. The kitchen has a remote controlled ceiling fan and both bedrooms have ceiling fans with wall controls. The large bedroom has a queen bed with a two zone heated mattress pad. The smaller bedroom has two twin beds with french doors that open onto a small deck.

There is also a large covered front porch with dual burner grill, outdoor refrigerator, ceiling fan, modest herb garden (depending on the season), and plenty of seating for socializing or just soaking in the peace and serenity of the property. In the event music is desired, we have Pandora music available for streaming though Sonos for play both inside and out. Finally, the unit has dedicated WiFi as well as DirectTV with premium movie, ESPN, news, and local channels.

Though the property no longer boasts over 700 acres, we are on eleven secluded acres surrounded by guest accessible orchards and woods all the while being minutes from Interstate 26. We very much hope you enjoy your stay.

Guest access

Guests are free to explore the orchards and open areas of the property but please refrain from entering other structures on the property.

Interaction with guests

While we do live on the property in a separate structure, the Carriage House is dedicated solely for the use of our guests and is not used as a residence. Our interaction with guests is on a per guest basis based on the extent they prefer.

Other things to note

We have a couple of very friendly and social cats who will more than likely stop by to visit. They do not live in the Carriage House, but they will peek in the windows and happily share the porch with you.

We want our guests to use and enjoy all the amenities available to them during their time with us. If at any point in your stay, please contact us immediately if you have questions or concerns. We have very basic guidelines including only smoking or "vaping" outside and cleaning up incidental messes as they occur. Pets are warmly welcome, we just request that for your pet's sense of security and comfort they be crated if you intend to leave them for an extended period of time. Guests are free to explore the grounds but refrain from entering any of the other structures on the property. Overall, our primary request is for our guests to treat the Carriage House the way they would wish their own home to be treated so the things they enjoyed during their stay are available for the next guests.

The carriage house was nicely located right outside Hendersonville, but still close to amenities. We were greeted upon arrival. The kitchen was well appointed.

We loved the experience. The hosts were delightfully wonderful, and went to extra lengths to provide us with a DVD player, and get it up and running. The property is definitely in the country, but that is part of the appeal. It was quiet, restful and also luxurious.

This was a perfect anniversary getaway! The carriage house is wonderfully cozy and the renovations are well done. My husband and I enjoyed wandering the vast apple orchards with our pups at sunrise and breathing in the crisp air. John and Virginia were great hosts, they made sure we had everything we needed! Thanks so much!

What a lovely place to stay. Very clean, well stocked and comfortable. Country setting but so close to the interstate and conveniences. I would definitely recommend this place to future guests. John and Virginia communicated well and made sure everything went smoothly.

John and Virginia are very attentive but also give guests plenty of space. The setting is very peaceful and relaxing with a long view up a valley that is blanketed in apple orchards.

John & Virginia saved us from almost having a very bad 1st experience on Airbnb. The "rustic" cabin in Balsam Grove that we had reserved months in advance turned out to be trashy, dirty, and infested with bugs. So after being on the road for 5 hours, at 8:30 pm we packed up & headed towards Asheville. I sent out a few requests and J&V came to the rescue! At 9pm they excepted our request, asked us if we preferred red or white, 15 minutes later we showed up at the door and were greeted with snacks for the kids, alcohol for the adults and empathizing ears as we shared our awful experience. The location was perfect for us because we wanted a relaxing stay in the country with access to Asheville and the parks. Pisgah, Chimney Rock, DuPont and Asheville are all within a 1/2 hour. The house itself was cool. It was well accommodated with a full kitchen and washer & dryer. John, a bit of a techy, has the entire house wired with speakers and mood lighting inside and out. Jack Johnson on Pandora really set the stage for our relaxing down time amid the hills and the surrounding apple orchard. The kids lovingly referred to it as our tiny house. We really hope to be back soon. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Photos don't do this place justice. Super clean secret garden in the mountains. Comfy beds, well appointed and stocked full kitchen and a nice deck with mountain view.

We love love to host, cook, entertain and indulge in inspired cuisine. John is partners in a restaurant in Napa, and when he is there you are likely to find him working in the kitchen or assisting behind the bar. The rest of the time he alternates between working on the restoration of the property or traveling with his job. Virginia spends her falls and winter months teaching at a local high school and her spring and summer months gardening, traveling with John, and of course indulging in John's inspired cuisine.
