A beautiful mill-house in an amazing location! Moulin de Latreille, offering 1 king-size bedroom with a river view, nestled in the silent & timeless valley of the Ouysse river, surrounded by cliffs and wild flower meadows.

There is also another adjacent king-size bedroom available also with a river view on another listing of Idyllic mill-house near Rocamadour

The space

Moulin de Latreille is a beautiful 13th century water-mill generating it's own electricity from the river that runs through it. Situated on the banks of the River Ouysse, known to the locals as the 'emerald river' for its' sparkling clarity and colour. Initially built by Cistercian monks, we have restored the interior of the mill with a spirit of simplicity and comfort with a contemporary twist to create a meditative space sensitive to its historic past. Surrounded by totally unspoilt countryside, Latreille offers you the opportunity to relax and unwind in this rural idyll.

Nestled in the 'Parc Naturel Regional des Causses du Quercy', a rural area of natural outstanding beauty and one of the richest historical regions of France.

Latreille is surrounded by the beautiful medieval market towns of Sarlat, Gourdon and Martel. Rocamadour, just 20 minutes away, is one of the must-see gems of this area and deservedly the second most visited religious sites in France.

The Grottes (Caves) of Lacave, Peche Merle and Cougnac are not far away, the latter having magnificent cave paintings.

The next Mill up river from Latreille is Moulin de Cougnaguet, a fortified mill-house and museum . It has an ancient but operational water-powered flour-mill, and it still makes its own flour. A tour of the mill is highly recommended.

This region of France has a remarkable number of pre-historic sites, medieval towns, chateaux and gardens, all set in breathtaking scenery.

Sleeping 4 comfortably , we offer king-size en-suite bedrooms, they are light and spacious with river views and their own private sitting room with a balcony over-looking the river. Equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, a fridge and a wood-burning stove.

Breakfast is typically cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, bread & croissants with juice, tea and coffee. Additional meals such as picnics, lunches and evening meals are available on request, using home grown vegetables and locally sourced produce. The nearest restaurants are 2kms in Cales.

Latreille is nestled in it's own magical setting, a vast wild flower meadow on one side, and mill pond on the other. There are walks along the river on both sides, hammocks are set up in the garden by the river for total relaxation to watch the kingfishers go by. There is also a rowing boat & canoe available for the more adventurous along with 'wild swimming' in the crystal clear waters of the river Ouysse.

If you are interested in the birds and butterflies of the region, there is the most amazing selection around the months of May/June, when the wild flower meadows are at their best.

We have a local qualified mobile Holistic Therapist who is available for various treatments within the tranquility of your own idyllic surroundings.

The south-west is renowned as a gastronomic area of France and there are two Michelin starred restaurants in the local area, one of which is situated further up stream on the river Ouysse, a 45 minute walk away or transport to these can be arranged.

Where to start??? Fi's watermill is amazing! From the bedroom, the decor, the surroundings, the host and her wonderful breakfast, etc..... We only stayed 2 nights and were very jealous of the other couple that was there at the same time as us as they were staying for a week! Fi's house is very well decorated with taste and outside the watermill is so beautiful with the river running right next to the house. She even has a couple of hammocks to relax in and stare at the stars at night. We highly recommend this place to future travelers!

Our stay at Fi's was a highlight of the trip. The place is fantastic and the hosts were great. In fact, we spent more time in the close-by neighbourhood rather than drive throughout the Dordogne region - as Fi recommended. We had have gladly stayed longer and enjoyed the region and hospitality.

We spent a fantastic four days at the water-mill in late October. The property and location are as picturesque as the pictures suggest. The bedroom was very comfy, whilst Giles made sure the fire in the guests sitting room was lit when we got back in the evenings. Will definitely come back when we're next in this neck of the woods.

What a wonderful place and incredible host! Fi and her family made us more feeling like visiting friends than strangers. Her mill is a fascinating place, preserved and decorated with so much love and nice details. It is a fantastic place to come down and feel close to nature. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and would love to come again.

We had a really great time there. Fi was always making sure that everything was OK. The breakfasts were perfect and so was the service. The room is very peaceful and the king size bed is very comfortable. The house is located in a quiet place, 2km away from the nearest town at the end of a long bumpy road so be careful if you have a low car.

We really had a great time at the water mill, staying for 2 nights at this amazing location. Both rooms were really nice, spacious and very tidy. Only surrounded by beautiful nature, our kids enjoyed swimming in the river. Breakfast was served on the terrace and included a home grown peppermint tea, that was delicious. Fi & her husband took good care of us and gave useful tips for sightseeing and the nearby restaurants. Highly recommendable.
