Kelpies Cottage is in Glentrool Village, the only village inside Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park. It's a beautiful peaceful location and as a designated Dark Skies Park you can expect to see some awesome starry skies, and if you're really lucky, maybe even Aurora Borealis.

Glentrool is very much about the outdoors, with plenty of mountain biking and walking routes nearby. We are right in the heart of the stunning Galloway Forest with trees, streams, lochs and mountains right on the doorstep.

The space
Kelpies Cottage is a single-storey bungalow which is simply decorated with comfortable beds. It has oil fired central heating throughout, and a lovely log burning stove in the living room. During your stay you can have as many baskets of logs as you desire, and we can help you "fire up" if you need assistance.

The kitchen is modern and has the usual appliances of cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle and toaster, washing machine and dishwasher. The hot water is an "on-demand" system. The bathroom has a bath and shower. There is plenty of free on-site parking.

Dogs are welcome very welcome and the garden is fully enclosed for your furry friends safety. The rear bedroom has a double bed and a single bed. The front bedroom has one double bed. The cottage is thus suitable for two couples enjoying a break away together, or a family of two parents and up to three kids. Fresh bed linen is provided for each guest along with a single bath towel for each guest and hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom.

In the living room there are a couple of small sofas and a table/chairs for meals, but while there is a TV provided in the cottage, there is no TV reception (or licence) at the cottage. We do, however, have a Roku streaming device and DVD player. Please note that due to COVID we have had to remove games, DVDs, cushions and blankets from the cottage so you may wish to bring your own.

There is free Wi-Fi inside the cottage although it can be patchy towards the back of the house.

There is secure bike storage and bike wash facilities (a hose!). We also usually have a few spares lying around, and there is an experienced bike mechanic living in the village for any more serious mechanicals.

Guest access
The entire bungalow is available to guests, barring a couple of cupboards for cleaning and maintenance materials.

Other things to note
There is no TV reception (or licence). There is a TV in the cottage with a Roku, which streams some catch up channels, Netflix and Amazon (you will need your own log in). Please note that due to COVID we have had to remove games, DVDs, cushions and blankets from the cottage so you may wish to bring your own.

We ask that you keep your dogs off all the furniture and out of the bedrooms, please.

Glentrool is RURAL. There is a pub that serves excellent food less than a mile from the cottage, but the nearest shop (Aldi/Sainsburys) is ten miles away, so you will need to stock up prior to arrival - or go to the pub a lot! There is also a local Visitor Centre/Cafe less than a mile away, but it is seasonal and may be either closed or weekends only during the off-season.

Hello! We are Dave and Beth, and we are lucky enough to live in beautiful Glentrool in the Galloway Forest. Culsharg Cottage and Kelpies Cottage are next door to our house and we split our time between running the cottages and various creative pursuits. Dave is a professional photographer, and living in the "Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park" he takes advantage of the starry skies here. You can see some of his photos, all of the local area, in the cottage. Beth designs and makes jewellery and teaches fitness classes, currently via Zoom. We love the outdoors and enjoy running, loch swimming (Beth) biking (push bike and motorbike - Dave), and hill walking (both of us!). We love exploring both here in Glentrool and all over our beautiful wee country. We are always happy to chat about the best ways to enjoy our amazing countryside.
