An idyllic bed and breakfast retreat close to the 13th century wool town of Lavenham. After spending the day exploring the sites and delights of Suffolk return to our beautifully situated home and enjoy delicious home-cooked food from our garden.

The space

Our house is a relaxed family home where everyone is welcome. This room is a really quiet twin/double room with large and luscious beds and an en-suite bathroom with hand held shower. There are tea and coffee facilities and electric radio/alarms.

Guest access

Guests have access to the sitting room with a TV and boardgames and a desk if you need to work. Breakfast and dinner are either served here in the bay window overlooking the garden or at a French cherry refectory table in the dining room. The house has a large South facing terrace where guests can have tea, read a book or just enjoy the garden views. You are also welcome to use our all-weather tennis court. We can lend you rackets and balls.

Interaction with guests

I love cooking and as well as breakfast, I offer dinner when required. We have a smallholding and a large vegetable garden and whenever possible I use freshly picked homegrown ingredients. I am more than happy to help plan the day's adventure or point you in the right direction of a good place to eat.

The Old Rectory is a lovely period building set in spacious gardens well off the main road, so if peace and quiet are what you want – it's perfect. Maggie is the perfect host, too - so accommodating and welcoming. She helped us with details of all the best places to eat - one of which is her breakfast table! Our room was in the newly transformed 'cart lodge'. It was very clean and comfortable, with plenty of seating, a nice comfy bed with fresh, crisp white bedlinen – and even a little table and chairs outside for our own private little view of the garden.

This is a beautiful place to stay for a peaceful and relaxing break, and greatly exceeded our expectations. The rooms are warm, comfortable and beautifully decorated with stunning views. Home made chocolate cake and tea on arrival was a highlight. The breakfasts were delicious with the best sausages I can remember. A great base for exploring the local area and Maggie is very happy to point you in the right direction. Many thanks to Maggie and family for such warm hospitality. We hope to come back soon.

Maggie and family were very welcoming , ideal hosts. The house and location are exactly as described and pictured, there was even warm fluffy towels ready in the bathroom in the morning, the finishing touches to an stay. The breakfast was cooked to order with excellent ingredients. Highly recommend a stay.

Our children having begun to fly the nest, I thought it would be great to be able to carry on welcoming people to our house by way of bed and breakfast. Please come and stay and see the place we think is a magical place to live.
